Legitimate Online Jobs for a Little Extra Money

Andre Asbury
We've all seen the ads that say you can earn $2000 a week working from home.. if you pay them $100 up front. The truth is many of these are scams that take a fee from you up front and then never deliver on the promise to get you earning money. And if it actually does turn out to be a money maker, chances are it's a pyramid scheme or something similarly illegal. But there are some legitimate ways to make money online, which I will go through here.

Online tutoring is surprisingly popular. There are a number of sites (tutor.com, tutornext.com, tutorvista.com,e-tutor.com, just to name a few) that have tutoring facilities mostly for high schoolers. Jobs like this are totally legitimate and will pay you around $10. I worked for tutor.com as a math tutor for awhile and it was generally pleasant. It was a little difficult to draw some of the math symbols and graphs with a normal computer but it was fine. Students generally seemed receptive and you get to tutor while watching your favorite tv show and not have to deal with driving somewhere or deal with the parents or other overhead that comes with working at a school or tutoring center.

Freelance writing is very popular as well. Sites like yahoo, associated content, AOL, HubPages, About.com, all get a lot of their articles from freelance writers. The pay is low and is mostly based on how many views you get. Generally, it is $1.50 for every 1000 views and for certain types fo articles, they may pay you some up front. So, you have to find topics that a lot of people will search for in order to make any decent money. So far, in just over a year writing 60+ articles for associated content, my highest viewed articles was around 700 views but it is still getting views now and you keep earning until no one view it anymore.

ChaCha has a service where people send text messages with questions and an expeditor or guide answers them. This service has been around a few years but is probably less popular now that many people have smartphones. Anyway, it's an amusing little job doing web searches for people and reporting back to them. The faster you work the more money you make. ChaCha pays $0.02 per question you answer unless you are a specialist on a subject and then you get more if the first responder forwards the question to you.

Good luck with your online job hunting!
