Lego Celebrates 50th Anniversary

Marli
As a child, toys were like gold. I was a connoisseur of every toy known to man from play-doh to make-your-own-slime sets. I must have owned hundreds of games and toys during my childhood, but I will never forget my legos. Legos were a toy that girls or guys could play with, and probably the only toy we played with together!

Legos combined the art of construction with the fun of creativity and I will never forget the fun I had with them. I remember how when I was little, my whole class made a huge castle out of legos. It has windows, openings for doors and even towers. Any other building toy wouldn't have worked, the specific design of legos allowed us to build in more ways than just vertically or horizontally. Now that I'm older, I don't have my own set of legos, but I sure do build lego castles with my little brothers! The original legos were super simple, they consisted of different colored connectable blocks, but now they have people and many other attachments so the construction of cars, spaceships, and boats is possible.

Star Wars Legos

My little brothers have this set and it comes with not only the usual legos pieces, but the little people also. The Star Wars Lego set comes with characters such as Darth Vader, Yoda, and jedis! This lego set is one we have hours of fun playing with, especially when it's a rainy day outside and we have time to watch the movie and build something futuristic.

Castle

So I thought I was being cool way back when I used to construct castles with my original legos, but now legos has come out with a set that's specifically for that purpose! The castle pieces allow the builder to create realistic features such as drop-down bridges and towers. There are also little components that can be purchased to go along with the castle theme like the good wizard, dwarves' mine, and knight's catapult defense.

Indiana Jones

The Indiana Jones movies spun tales of adventure and intrigue and now, legos has come out with its own take on the fascinating story of Indiana Jones. The Indiana Jones themed lego sets include Indiana Jones Motorcycle Chase, Indiana Jones Temple Escape, and Indiana Jones Race for Stolen Treasure. These sets come complete with vehicles, props, and even planes.

Legos has always provided a simple product that allows the child to do most of the thinking, building, and creating. Legos is one toy that doesn't promote passive contentment, but rather interactive fun. It is for this reason that legos is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The company has brought the joy of imagination to thousands of children all over the world. I'm so glad that legos are still around today and I hope they will still be around for my children in the future. If you have children, visit the lego website for fun lego games and a look at the lego sets that are currently available. It's amazing to see how far legos has come.
