Lego Mindstorms NXT: Review

Conquer the World with Lego Mindstorms NXT

Mark Rollins
Years ago, I decided at a young age that I was going to take over the world. However, I had a small problem: conquering the world requires that you have a lot of minions. Apparently, trying to rule the world is a team effort. Unfortunately, I was never very good with people, unless they are willing to be dominated. Yet people have this terrible thing called free will that can't be overcome easily, and my plan for mass-hypnosis was a complete bust.

Then it hit me: robots! Robots don't ever talk back, but do exactly what they are programmed to do. Provided it has enough electrical power, robots don't have to eat, sleep, or require such wimpy things like "compassion" and "honesty". With an army of giant robots who would be under my control, then I could use them to destroy all in my path. Who needs minions?

Unfortunately, this led to another problem. I don't know how to built a giant robot, or, for that matter, a small robot. However, the Lego Mindstorms NXT (Set number 8527) kit, comes with over 500 Lego pieces to make a robot, and then special pieces allow me to program it to do specific things.

For example, I could build a scorpion that could move and sting with an extendable tail. Like the band the Scorpions, it was Love at First Sting, and it Rocked Me Like a Hurricane. And that was build was with just a little bit of work. With a lot of work, I was able to build the prototype of my first humanoid robot, which was able to walkabout like a man.

All of it came in an easily transportable box which included a mini-computer. The mini-computer is able to program all the accessories like three servo motors, the sound sensor, an ultrasonic visual sensor, an improved light sensor, and even a set of virtual "eyes".

With all this, I will soon have my army to take over the world! Mu hu ha ha ha ha! Look at me! I even have an evil laugh! Now all I need is another $250 for my next robot. Of course, I'm going to need a lot of these kits to make a giant robot, so I'm going to need at least 1 million dollars. Whoa, it looks like I might need some money before I begin my plan. Maybe I can build some robots to take out a bank. Wait, I'll need the robots first. Dang, this plan is getting way too complicated.

Those robots are cool, even if they won't be much good at helping you effect your coup.

Lego Robots! Now, thats something to get into. I am not sure if I would have the patience for this, but it seems to be a good item to work on with one's children. Good review. 5 stars article here.
