Lego Takes on Aliens with the Mars Mission Space Hero Air Blaster

The MIB Weapons Have Nothing on the Space Hero Air Blaster

While most people are still trying to decide on what they are going to do for Halloween, I have 80% of my Christmas shopping completed. One of the things that I knew that I had to get was the Space Hero Air Blaster from Lego. This is part of the Mars Mission series and is guaranteed to be one of the hottest toys this holiday season. How do I know this? Once word starts to spread about how smoothly the darts shoot, the size and its overall construction, toy stores will have a hard time keeping them in stock.

Measuring a little over nine inches, the Space Hero Air Blaster comes with ten foam darts. They are well made and won't break easily but eventually they will need to be replaced. The color scheme of orange, white and black on the body of the gun looks sweet and the foam darts have a very rich blue color. The gun holds six darts at a time so you don't have to reload as often; I haven't been able to find dart refills for this yet but I am sure Lego will be selling them before Christmas arrives.

The suggested age range for this is six and older but I more than a few adults that would love to get a hold of one of these. When I broke it out of the package to test it out I was impressed with the weight of it and the overall design. Everyone that tried it out loved it and wanted to know where they could get one. This isn't something that is going to break or fall apart even if you have the roughest kids on the planet. The downside is that it might be a little too hard for younger kids to operate. It doesn't require a lot of strength to operate the trigger but the size and weight of it might be too much for them to handle.

When loaded properly, the foam darts can shoot anywhere from three to six feet depending on how you have it angled. Out of curiosity I tried to slide some of the Nerf foam darts into the chamber and they didn't fit. That wasn't a big shock though; if Lego is going to release dart supplement sets it would make sense that they would use a unique design so you would have to buy their refills.

The Space Hero Air Blaster makes for a great gift for Lego collectors, people into similar air guns and anyone that wants to have some fun in the office. The suggested retail price on this is $19.99; if you buy it through the Lego World Shop you may want to wait until they offer 'free shipping'. There are a few other air guns from Lego, one in the Bionicle series is on sale for a limited time for $9.99. If you aren't into the Mars Mission series or want to save some cash, that gun might be a better pick for you.
