There are far more than a hundred types of lemons. And every type has many useful abilities, which make this fruit so unique. They differ in the thickness of the skin, in the juice content and the taste. By the way, they are ripe as soon as they have a shiny skin: they need not necessarily be yellow for this.

How you get more from a lemon

Lemons give more juice if you roll them with some pressure with the flat of the hand on a smooth surface, before you press out the juice. If you need only some drops of lemon juice, prick into the fruit, for example with a fork, then squeeze out the amount you wish. Nevertheless, the fruit still remains fresh afterwards.

Lemons for beauty

Hair gets more shiny if you add a bit of lemon juice to the water, when you rinse off your hair. Finger nails become nicer and firmer if you occasionally dip them into a half of a lemon and twist them in it. Applied on your skin lemon juice has a stimulating, tightening and tonic effect due to the containing fruit acids.

Lemons for health

We all know that lemons are beneficial for the immune system because of their high content of vitamin C. Not by chance a glass of water or tea with the juice of lemon and a bit of honey is one of the most often applied household medicines against common cold. However, they still have numerous other abilities: Lemon juice strengthens the gums and prevents inflammations. Furthermore, it has an antiseptic effect and promotes the wound healing due to the styptic effects.

The essential oils, called terpenes, relieve and cure respiratory tract infections (RTI). In addition, vitamin C helps to protect the cells against free radicals. These are substances, which are originated from the metabolism.

Lemon for cleanliness

Lemons have an antiseptic, but also a cleaning effect. Their fresh and intense fragrance not only signals cleanness. It stimulates body and mind at the same time. It is proven that ethereal oil assists to boost the ability to concentrate and the efficiency as well.

*Dried lemon skins are a great fuel for grills to start the glow. Or you may use it for the fireplace. They burn great and exude a pleasant fragrance.

*A special tip for smokers: You can remove nicotine stains on the fingers with lemon juice and a pumice.

*If you have used the juice of one half a lemon and want to keep the other half, let first drip a bit of vinegar onto a small plate and then put the other half of the fruit with its cut surface on it.

*Do you have two squeezed lemon halves left over? You may rub your dry skin on your elbow with them. This has a very smoothing effect.

*You can remove rust or fruit stains on cloths if you apply some lemon juice before washing.
