Lemon Balm and Rose Tea

Sharon Schmidt Tyler

This is an herbal tea that can boost the mood. Lemon balm is an herb that can both energize and soothe you, while rose petals can be sensual. The finished tea can be the ultimate summer refreshment to help you enjoy the moment and focus on the day at hand. I suggest using freshly picked and washed lemon balm leaves and rose petals. While most roses will provide the fragrance and properties to fulfill your needs in this tea, I suggest using petals from the French rose (Rosa gallica) or damask rose (Rosa x damascenena) for the best possible results.

Ingredients:

16 leaves of fresh lemon balm

or 1 tablespoon dried lemon balm

Petals plucked from two rose heads

or 2 tablespoons of dried rose petals

Water

Instructions:

  1. Place the dry ingredients in a large teapot. If using fresh, be sure that you wash them first.

  2. Bring water to a boil in separate container.

  3. Let the water cool for around five minutes.

  4. Add the slightly cooled water into the teapot with the leaves and petals.

  5. Allow the tea to step for around five minutes.

  6. Strain, serve, and enjoy your tea.

This tea is a fun one to make if you are growing your own ingredients. It can be served hot or iced. I like mine slightly bitter, but you can add honey or sugar to taste.
