Lemon Yellow-Themed Wedding Makes for a Colorful Celebration

Leveling Truth
Most of us are familiar with the old saying, "When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade." Yet, how many can say that they've ever considered turning that old adage into a brilliantly clever wedding theme?

Perhaps the term "a couple of lovebirds" really doesn't describe the two of you. Maybe you guys are just more canary people. If so and you're still reading this, here's how to do a unique wedding theme that's all about lemons.

Basically, think lemon and then think all shades of yellow, yellow, and yellow. In some small way, try to incorporate a little yellow or lemon touch into the most important aspects of your unique wedding theme.

Invitations

The invitation is the first thing guests will see that sets the stage for a theme wedding.

Einvite has a lovely Lemon and White invitation. The card is white with a lemon colored border. The card itself is simple, classy, and elegant.

Brick House Paperie offers a sophisticated Charleston Yellow Invitation in yellow with a chocolate border along the edge.

Announcing it has a really cute and simple bright yellow striped invitation.

If you'd like to make your own invitations, consider this design which was custom done by Liz Libre and make sure to visit Linda & Harriet for other unique designs.

Here's another great DIY craft idea to make your own yellow rose invitations.

Dresses

The greatest thing about a unique theme wedding is that it can truly be as unique as you want it to be. Your dress is no exception.

Davids Bridal offers a wide variety of bridesmaid dresses in canary yellow. However, who says only the bridesmaids and the wedding party can wear a color? Consider switching things up and select a yellow wedding dress while your attendants wear white this time instead.

Though you may have some difficulty finding the wedding dress of your dreams in yellow, if you're up to the challenge, dare to be different and give it a shot.

If you need some encouragement, it took me almost a year to find a wedding dress with turquoise and teal accents...so, yellow is definitely possible even if you have to have one custom made!

eBay is a great place to look for unusual items or consider looking for a yellow prom dress or just a yellow formal gown.

Forever 21 also has some great, fun, and affordable yellow dresses. Choose from a great yellow V neck linen dress, a linen shift dress, a woven eyelet tube dress, a summer fling dress, a ruched bubble dress, or a babydoll all at the incredible price of under $25. If you choose to wear the traditional white, at least your bridesmaids will love you even more for not making them spend a fortune on a dress they'll only wear once.

Flowers

Yellow and white flowers are available in a variety of styles and in every season to compliment your unique wedding theme.

For flower choices, consider sunflowers, buttercups, daisies, or yellow roses.

Bridesmaids could carry a single sunflower or a bouquet cluster of miniature sunflowers.

Also consider a few artificial or real lemon trees. If the yellow flower you would like is going to be out of season when you plan to get married, consider shopping around for silk flowers ahead of time.

Tuxedos

Guys easily have the simplest things to do to get ready for a theme wedding. Easily accent your guy's attire by adding a yellow cumberbund, tie, or just a coordinating boutonnière.

Centerpieces

You may not have given it much thought, but lemons are really an easy item to decorate with in a variety of different ways. For some photos of a couple examples check out these easy fruit centerpieces for ideas and then use your own imagination!

Lemon scented candles or yellow floating candles are also simple and easy centerpieces.

Foods

Chocolate is a wonderful complement to all shades of yellow. A chocolate fountain is a must have. A few bananas arranged around the display will be just enough to accent your yellow theme nicely.

A variety of crackers and a variety of cheese chunks offer an array of yellow and yellow related color choices.

You might also consider having a potato bar with a variety of different cheese options as toppings.

If you really want to go for something different and unique, find a caterer who can set up an omelet station for your guests. This is a great idea for a brunch time wedding and even if you're going for totally unique it's still neat at night!

Beverages

In lieu of traditional punch, of course you'll have to serve lemonade. If you'd like variety consider yellow lemonade, pink lemonade, raspberry lemonade, or any other flavored lemonade.

Iced tea is another great option. Be sure to add a small lemon slice to the rim of the punch glasses!

Serve iced water in a clear glass punch bowl. Ahead of time you'll want to make a couple ice molds using a bundt cake pan. Fill the bundt pan half-way. Arrange on top lemon circles then fill the rest of the way with water and refreeze. The lemon decorations will look lovely in the punch bowl and as the ice mold melts the lemon flavor will be a refreshing addition to the water.

If your wedding plans include an open bar consider serving lemon drop martinis as your wedding specialty or either Mike's Hard Lemonade.

Wedding Cake

If you would like a traditional wedding cake select a yellow cake with buttercream icing. Other choices include lemon poundcake or adding a lemon filling to the cake.

If you'd like something different and a little less traditional, lemon meringue pie would be delicious as well as lemon cheesecake!

Favors

For guest favors, again think yellow and think lemon.

Yellow lemonheads come packaged individually, loose in bulk, or in the cute theater sized boxes. Couple yellow lemonheads with a funny or quirky poem and these would definitely be cute and unique wedding favors.

Attach a tag that reads:

Mr. and Mrs. Just Married

June 8, 2008

Two lemonheads will forever be better than one.

Or

Mr. and Mrs. Just Married

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

Or

Pucker up! Thanks for joining in our sweet and sour wedding celebration!

If candy isn't exactly your style or if you'd prefer something a bit more classic, Yankee Candle offers a Lemon Lavender scented candle that comes in both the votive and the tart size. The candle is lavender in color and for around $2 each these make cute favors. If you'd like to include a few candles in your decorations this scent would work nicely too.

OK, ladies. There you have it - how to have a unique lemon-themed wedding. Now, all you have left to do is convince your fiancé to take you to the Canary Islands or sunny California on your honeymoon!
