Basic Description -
This is a very good lens that will make all of your images look sharp and crisp. You can focus as close as eighteen inches to an object, which will help with close up shots. The colors are also excellent with this lens. And this lens is also extremely light, so if you despise heavy lenses then this is the perfect one for you. It might also interest you to note that this is an EF lens, which means that it will work on full-frame or cropped body cameras.
Uses -
A fifty millimeter lens can be used for many different types of photographs. However, it excels at doing portrait shots. So if you're going to a wedding or some other type of event that involves people, then you'll definitely want to take this lens with you. As mentioned above, this lens also takes reasonable close up shots; however, don't expect to be able to take true macro shots with this lens. For that type of work, you'll need to buy a dedicated macro lens.
Price Tag -
The Canon 50mm lens will cost you around eighty to a hundred dollars online. Websites such as eBay may even offer it for a cheaper price. Some of you who are new to photography might think that eighty to a hundred dollars is a lot of money. However, keep in mind that a similar 50mm lens that the professionals use costs around fourteen hundred dollars. The images will undoubtedly be better (as will the build quality) with the more professional lens, but for the price the Canon 50mm f/1.8 II can't be beat.
Why so Cheap?
The reason why it's so affordable is because the body is made of a very cheap plastic material. It literally feels like it could fall apart when you hold it in your hands. However, the glass that makes up this lens is very good. But if you drop this little gem, don't expect it to survive the fall.
Affordable camera lenses for a dslr can be extremely difficult to find. However, the Canon 50mm f/1.8 II is one of those rare lenses that combines quality with a reasonable price tag.
