Leopard Rock Lodge Provides Access to Beautiful Country in Meru, Kenya

Shirlene Alusa-Brown
Meru is probably not as famous as other parts of Kenya, but this helps make it a wonderful getaway for someone planning to spend some time in relatively unspoiled nature. A great place to launch your day from is the delightful Leopard Rock Lodge, in the heart of Meru National Park, near Bisanadi Reserve.

Leopard Rock Lodge is an open lodge so the wildlife can be spotted walking freely between the cottages. Just be aware that at night the buffalo, leopards and elephants use the swimming pool as their watering hole. There is an electric fence that helps keep them a safe distance from the guests, but allows them to get close enough for people to get fantastic pictures.

The lodge boasts 10 small cottages and 5 luxurious cottages. They also offer conference facilities, a Jacuzzi room, and a museum that works of art from the Boran tribes people. If you really feel the urge to have a 'city' moment, you can use their computer, GPRS email and GSM mobile. The Oasis swimming pool has its own bar in the center of the pool, and you can watch crocodiles basking on the riverbank.

Meru National Park has a teeming bird population, a guided nature walk, a hippo pool, a visit to a Borana village where you can participate in a camel walk, and fish in the Tana and Rojewero rivers. Nearby Bisanadi Reserve offers an opportunity to view a significant number of game animals, see the Adamson's falls, or ride in a boat down the Tana River.

This location is more suited to the less faint of heart as you will be very close to nature. For more information about this lodge, or to make a reservation, visit their website.
