Leopard in the Village

Amit Rai
Once there was a farmer in a village who was habitual of speaking lies at each and every small thing. He used to lie even for things which did not affected him as he felt proud in lying to people and make them foolish. Fraud used to run through his blood in his veins. In the same village suddenly there were news of people getting lost in the nearby jungle and a leopard as suspected behind all this. Hence all the people of village decided to help each other by promising to come together whenever anybody encounters the leopard. This way they formed a task force which used to stay awake at nights to see if they could get a glimpse of leopard.

The farmer due to his mischievous nature and the habit of speaking lie, one night started shouting for help as if he was attacked by the leopard. Everybody in the village rushed towards his house with weapons and once everybody got collected, people were shocked to see the farmer laughing. It did not take much time for the villagers to understand that the farmer had made a fool out of them again. However the farmer seemed to have enjoyed his act of foolishness and started repeating it every alternate day. Finally the villagers called up a discussion meeting and decided not to attend to the farmers call for help from future.

One day farmer's son fell seriously ill and he had to be taken to the nearby village for treatment. The farmer was traveling in the night to buy some medicines for his son when he faced the leopard in the jungle. The farmer started shouting loudly for help which the villagers heard but did not respond to as per their decision. The leopard attacked the farmer and ripped him apart. Next day in the morning people found the badly torn dead body of the farmer and felt really guilty of their decision to not to help the farmer on his call for help.

So we get to learn from this story that we should not take undue advantage of people's help and use assistance only when dearly required. Unduly trying and testing relationships can lead to their failure at actual time of need. Had the farmer not played and fooled around with the other villagers, he could have been saved and would have remained alive.
