Leprechauns

Passed on through generations

Throughout Ireland

Of wee little men

In green suits and leather boots

And leather aprons

With hammers and nails

They make shoes for the fairies

According to the tales

These little cuties

Are more than just shoemakers

They have other duties

The legends of old

Tell us every Leprechaun

Hides a pot of gold

So the story goes

It's an ancient tradition

To keep it from foes

But then we are told

That a rainbow can reveal

Where he hid his gold

And everyone knows

That after the rain is gone

There will be rainbows

So he'll work all day

Shifting many piles of rocks

Moving it away

To a new cover

In a field called Lucky Charm

That's full of clover

But some stories say

This gold you can discover

There's another way

If one you capture

The law says he must reveal

His precious treasure

He'll try to conceal

This well kept secret for sure

With tricks that seem real

Then he vanishes

As soon as you look away

He quickly dashes

So the stories say

He may also grant wishes

If luck goes your way

But some tricks he'll play

So be careful what you wish

On your lucky day

He thinks we are fools

And he will try to trick us

So we'll break the rules

He is mischievous

And the tricks that he will play

Are hilarious

He'll try to delay

With some crafty distractions

In a funny way

If his game you play

And you are very cautious

He will have to pay
