Lesbian 101: Termonology Used to Discribe Most Lesbians

Dawn Fuller
There are certain definitions that are used to describe the "types" of lesbians in the world today. These terms are used to differentiate between the types of lesbian that a woman may be. This article will discuss and describe the difference between these terms.

A very feminine woman also known as a "fem" or "lipstick lesbian," is a real girly girl. These types of feminine women have to look perfect, with hair and make-up done at all times, no matter what. They have to have their partners total attention at all times and may be referred to as "high maintenance." Fem woman like this will not touch their lover and are known as "pillow princess" because of the fact they are the receivers and never do the giving.

The second type of feminine women is the category that I describe myself and that is a "tweener". A tweener is a fem woman who will ware make-up sometimes as well as fix their hair, but at the same time can go without all that stuff and throw on jeans, t-shirt, and hat and just go. We aren't afraid to get our hands dirty if need be. During love making with our partners we like giving as well as receiving; making our partner feel as good as they make us feel.

For those that don't know there is also a masculine side to lesbian women. These women are different from feminine lesbians. The terms used to describe the masculine lesbians are stone butch, butch, and soft butch. A stone butch woman looks very manly and will even have a lot of man characteristics. They appear rough and tumble with a hard edge about them. Stone butches are known more for "packing." Packing is a term used by stone butches who constantly where strap-on's and dildo's, even out of the bedroom. During lovemaking they do not like to be touched and only like being the giver.

Butch women are how I describe my girlfriend. They are somewhat masculine and have characteristics of stone butches but have more of a softer edge about them. They can be very gentle and affectionate but as well be tough when times call for it. During lovemaking butches love to give as well as to receive.

The last terminology to describe a butch is soft butch. A soft butch has more of a feminine side to them but is still listed in that masculine category. They have a "softer" personality about them and would be referred to more as "tomboyish." Most butches would never be caught in a dress or make-up. Some lesbians don't identify as feminine or butch, and don't like to be categorized under either term.
