Don't Procrastinate
Whatever you do, try to get as much of your Christmas shopping out of the way as soon as you can. The later you wait to shop, the more crowds you're going to have to deal with to find what you want. Also, if you put off your shopping, you may not be able to find everything you have on your list.
Timing is Everything
Either shop when stores first open in the morning or shop late in the evening. Shop early and you won't have to deal with crowds and will have your pick of the newly stocked shelves. Shop late and you'll also avoid crowds and may catch the shelves being restocked. Whenever I have to do a lot of shopping at Wal-Mart, I go around midnight. This might not work for everyone, depending on your situation, but I love to avoid the Wal-Mart hustle and bustle.
Shop Online
Do your shopping online and you can easily find whatever it is you're looking for, often at lower prices. You will also be able to avoid the crowds (obviously a big player in shopping stress). You may have to pay shipping costs, depending on which site you use, but few extra dollars may be worth it to you to lessen your shopping stress.
Stay Organized
You can lessen your stress by simply staying organized. Keep a list of who you're buying for and keep it updated so you don't accidentally buy for the same person twice. Also write the name of the person receiving the gift somewhere on the item (price tag or use a piece of tape) so you remember who you bought the present for to avoid confusion later.
Let Others Help
A lot of people do the Christmas shopping for the entire family. Don't try to take responsibility for everyone, as you will only make the holidays more stressful for yourself. Let your spouse and kids who are old enough do their own personal shopping and gift wrapping.
