The first thing is to remember the reason for the season. Christmas has gotten very commercial. It is important that everyone remember that Jesus Christ is the reason for Christmas. Spending time with family is important; the exchange of presents is merely a byproduct.
Next, if you are responsible for all or some of the cooking, there are ways to lessen your time in the kitchen. This will open up more time for other things.
Put all of the recipes you use in one place. Make copies of the original recipe and put each copy in a clear plastic protector so that spills are easily wiped off. Put all of these in a binder so that you no longer have to locate recipes in different places.
Buy ready made dishes from your local grocery store, restaurant, or bakery. If you choose to do this, you should be sure to try the dish ahead of time to be sure that it tastes good.
You can also purchase some convenience items such as frozen chopped onions, peppers, and other vegetables. Items such as cubed or shredded cheese are a good idea too. Be sure to check all recipes for the needed ingredients ahead of time so you can get all of the needed ingredients in one trip to the store.
When it is time to buy gifts, consider shopping online. Remember to take into consideration the number of shipping days left as well as the length of time it will take the packages to reach their destination. For relatives that live out of town, consider using websites that offer gift wrapping. If you are worried about packages being stolen from the house, you may want to send them to the recipient's work place.
For people on your list who are difficult to shop for, consider gift of the month clubs. These clubs offer all sorts of items from coffee or wine to cheese or cookies. You can find some at www.amazingclubs.com.
Giving a donation to a person's favorite charity in their name is also a wonderful gift idea. If you are not sure of their favorite charity, you can go to www.markmakers.org to purchase a gift certificate. The recipient can then go to the same site to choose a good or service that they want to donate that will help those in need around the world.
Last but not least, take time to relax. Pour yourself a cup of hot chocolate and watch a good movie or spend time with your family reminiscing about past holidays. No matter what you choose to do or how you choose to celebrate the holidays, always keep in mind that Jesus is the reason for the season!
