Congruent Triangles Lesson #5: Review of Triangle Congruence

Context

This is the 5th lesson of the unit. This lesson is just a review day for the student's. The best way to learn how to prove triangles are congruent is by just doing as many problems as they can. So for most of this day, the students will be working on a worksheet that will review the last two sections of this unit. The unit test for this chapter is likely within a week, so that makes this day's lesson very important. For some students, it may be their last chance in learning this material.

Objectives

Students should be able to prove triangles are congruent using any one of the four methods they have learned thus far.

Resources, Media and Technology

Possibly use a projector for the pop quiz at the end of class

Procedures
I will check homework to begin class. Then I will open it up for any questions that the students might have. If there are no questions, I will work out one or two of the problems I consider tricky problems. After that, I will hand out the worksheets to the class. I will make sure and stress the importance of this worksheet. Much of the upcoming unit test will contain congruent triangle problems. If they do not know how to complete the majority of the worksheet on their own then they will perform poorly on the test. I will announce that they will have a quiz over this the next day. They will have the rest of class to work on them, and if they are not able to finish they will complete it for homework and turn them in the next day. While the students are working on the worksheet, I will be going around the room and checking every student's paper to make sure they know how to do this. I will pay careful attention to the students who are struggling with this unit and make sure I work with them to fix the problems that they are having. I will spend as much time as needed to help fix major problems that some of my students may be having. At the conclusion of the period, I will ask the students to hand in their work. I will have a short two question pop quiz ready for the students. This quiz should not take long at all. I will alot 2 to 4 minutes at the end of class for the students to complete this quiz. Hopefully, this quiz will help reinforce to the students the importance of this section. The unit test is not far off so this pop quiz will show the students they need to know this information. The next day I will begin by reviewing the two problems from the quiz with the students. I will answer any additional questions that the students may have over this material. After this final review, we will move on to something new for the day.
