To understand why communities need laws

Teaching/Learning Procedures of lesson plan on laws and elections:
Lesson Motivation/Introduction
• Ask students the following question: What do you think this school would be like if we had no rules?
• Call on a few students to give an answer to the question. Discuss this scenerio.
• Say "Communities must have rules too. These rules are called laws. Lets read about laws."
Teaching/Learning Activities
• Students will take turns reading pages in textbook aloud. After each page we will briefly discuss what was just read by answering discussion questions orally.
• Pass out vocabulary review terms to students (election, candidate, laws, majority rules, etc.)
• Students will take turns answering each question by raising their hands.
• Teacher will write answers on overhead as each student correctly answers questions.
Closure of lesson of plan on laws and elections
• Tell the students that during tomorrow's lesson we will have a pretend election in class. We will be voting on someone in the class to become the Principal of the school.
• Review important vocabulary words to make sure students understand enough to be able to participate in the election.
