Lessons Selena Gomez Can Learn from Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Winona Ryder

Bryan Mckinley
Dear Selena Gomez,

Now that you are 18 years old, and one of the young rising pop icons in Hollywood, I feel it as my duty to give you some helpful advice for your journey through stardom. First, let me congratulate you for the great work you have put in through the years starting with being a kid on Barney & Friends, then moving on to becoming Alex Russo on Disney's hit show Wizards on Waverly Place. Now you have graduated to the big screen and are blessing us with such roles as Beatrice "Beezus" Quimby in Ramona and Beezus and Grace in the upcoming movie Monte Carlo. Miss Gomez it will be my pleasure to help navigate you away from the many things that could alienate your career.

Let me start by going over my qualifications. I am a male freelance writer in my thirties. Hmm, that's about it. How does this make me qualified to help you out? Quite simply because I have seen many youngsters in their prime make silly mistakes, and through them I can help show you what not to do.

Britney Spears: From Miss Spears, there are many things we can learn, but there is only one thing that sticks in my mind so much more than all the others. One morning Britney was having the most awfulest hair day ever. She is a smart girl girl, though and instantly thought of the perfect solution; being bald would be the ultimate morning time saver.

Lesson Learned: Bald is not always beautiful.

Advice: Keep the hair on your head while you still have the choice.

Lindsay Lohan: Poor Lindsay thought she was driving around Herbie and decided that she herself didn't have to be in control of the car because, duh, Herbie can drive himself. Unfortunately, just like how you can forget where you put your keys, Lindsay forgot which car she took one night. Can you believe that they had the nerve to charge her with a DUI for merely, bringing the wrong car for a ride and forgetting the self operating one at the movie set?

Lesson learned: Always double check which one of your many automobiles you leave home with.

Advice: Seek professional advice if your car does indeed talk to you.

Winona Ryder: I know that trying on an array of outfits is so exciting that it can make your mind just go totally blank. No. Really, it can happen. How else do you explain Miss Ryder having to explain to a judge why she was leaving a Saks Fifth Avenue without paying for clothes she didn't have when she came into the store?

Lesson Learned: Store surveillience videos are not the kind of videos you want to be starring in.

Advice: Write your name on the tags of all of your clothes. This way you will be sure to remember which clothes you actually wore into the store and don't accidently leave with the wrong clothes on.

I feel so relieved now that I know you have read this, and you will not make those minor hiccups that past teen icons have made after they turned 18. Good luck in your future, Miss Gomez and feel more than welcome to pass on these helpful tips to others, too.

Yours truly,

Your #1 stalker fan
