Lessons from a Tree

Phylis

A tree in my yard still stands proud and strong,

In spite of the hardships it has faced for so long,

Pelted by rain and smothered with snow,

Refusing to fall as the harsh winds did blow.

Injured last year when frozen by ice,

Outlasting the beatings and recovering real nice,

I look at it now, its arms stretched to the sky,

As though praising the Lord as He sits up on high.

"Thanks for the blessing of a beautiful day,"

The soft rustle of leaves had started to pray,

Now I stand in its shadow and enjoy its cool shade,

And awe at the beauty of this wonder God made.

Then I take away lessons I've learned from this tree,

To try to be worthy and be all I can be,

For everyone needs to help others you see,

Just as the tree provided shelter for me.

And in spite of our troubles we need to stand tall,

Give praise for our blessings; resist temptations to fall,

For all of the misery and the tears and the strife,

Will help us appreciate the many joys in our life.

I agree. And this is so touching. My grandmother used to compare what our faith in God should be to the oak tree in her yard. "Look how the limbs reach up toward Him," she used to say. "We should praise Him and thank Him, in the same way."

Great poem! Yes, trees do talk to us in their own way.

Such peace is found in trees, yes.

Beautiful! I, too, love tress immensely. I liked how you used a tree as an example for how one should live one's life.

PS: I went to give you five stars but there is a glitch in the rating system this morn. Will come back when it is fixed.

Nice verse! I love trees but never thought of them in that perspective...I will now!

Beautiful! I feel the same way about trees - they are reminders that we can survive and thrive despite what life throws at us.
