Lest We Forget

Werner Haas
On a recent Bill Maher telecast, he made a pertinent point that may be lost to some- when all else fails, he implied, one can always blame the Jews. And, despite the Vatican's new pronouncement that the Jewish people did not kill Christ, the notion doesn't go away. We have the rants of Mel Gibson and Charlie Sheen. We hear that Dior's John Gallianos claimed he loved Hitler- a love that would hardly have been reciprocated, since Gallianos, surely gay, would have been incinerated along with the millions of Jews he hated. Not a day goes by, even here in America, that someone somewhere somehow utters something vilely anti-Semitic.

And yet, hurtful as that surely must be, still one sees Jews happily driving their Mercedes, Audis, VWs and BMWs, to show either that they have forgotten or that they need these brands to prove they have "made it"- since living large in Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Greenwich or Palm Beach is not proof enough. Unlike them, I have not forgotten that the grandfathers of those Daimler and Mercedes engineers were happily constructing new and novel ways to eliminate millions of Jews more efficiently- just like their progeny now work to improve the motors and comforts of these cars. And, incidentally, those who support the bottom line of American-made Fords, please remember that good old Henry, a virulent anti-Semite, gave millions to Hitler, and would have given more except Pearl Harbor got him to make greater profit building tanks.

To those who say, turn the other cheek. It is time to forgive and forget, I combine current personalities with my memories. Joe the Plumber is like that once-nice butcher down the street who stopped serving us because we had to wear arm-0bands. Sara Palin, other than being totally and insensitively stupid, reminds me of the hospital nurse who turned my ailing mother away, explaining to her and my Dad that there is not enough antiseptic in the operating room to cleanse it if we have to operate on a Jew. I've said it before and I'll keep repeating it- the majority of Tea Party-ers are like those "ordinary" folks in pictures of the Nineteen Thirties and Forties, smilingly raising their arms in salute to the madman they believed was to lead them into a racially pure world.
