Let the Children Come to God

Amanda Kidd
There's a passage in the Bible that says, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you." Another one says, "From infancy you knew my scripture." Jesus said, "Let the children come to Him," so why are some parents active in the church while their kids are engaged in non-religious activities? Many parents believe their kids are saved until a specific age, assuming age 13. There's no biblical doctrine that support this belief. In fact, God ordained and called children to serve Him often. There were 12 year old kings and rulers in the Old Testament. Surely God's spirit was upon these children to succeed at the opposition they endured and conquered. Others claim children are saved until they can be held accountable or comprehend sin. Well, my first grader needs to be careful, including my 5 year old who's receiving a biblical foundation of God. My children can demonstrate good from evil, God and the devil, and sin and sinless.

At age 13, if they haven't been raised in Christ as our Bibles tells us to "train up a child the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it;" these children may rebel against parents who suddenly introduce them to God. Thirteen years is a long time without a Savior. One has to believe in their hearts Jesus died for them and accept Him as their Savior. One must receive baptism by immersion, not the counterfeit sprinkling of water on the infants who can't accept or reject Jesus. Because at this precious age they truly are too young to understand. But I believe parents should give their children the gift of God early on. My six month old watches us pray and laughs and I say "it won't be long little guy, you'll be praying too." I often tell my children, mama has no heaven connections with Jesus and to workout their salvation with fears and trembling. God saves us as individuals. Our children will be judged, so raise them in Christ, after all we all want to meet in heaven.

Thanks for reminding us that we will stand before God as individuals. Not on our own merits but on the merit of Christ.
