"Let Your Heart Not Be Troubled ..."
(My Original Free Verse Poem, Per Challenge of the Day for National Poetry Month)
My Free Verse Poem Effort:
I wonder and wander ...and have doubts, often
About the ways of man to man and about being human
About the ways of God to men and women
Until the Logos slowly yields peace again and again
Saving me, almost always, from the depths of despair
First, there is no assurance to any of heaven
Second, there is no work, no act, I can do to prosper
Here on earth, or after death, unless predestined
And I ask, third of all, how much do I want heaven?
Perhaps I want this world as do other men and women
Perhaps Heaven is only a nicer word for the end
Perhaps the deadend of all deadends makes us Christian
(Or Buddhist, or Muslim or Jewish, or Zoroastrian ...)
But the voice on the radio, this technology, reads the Word
(Thank Goodness for these, my aids, that early believers lacked)
And no matter how deep the despair, how angry I am with God
I love to hear the Word preached; I pray this goes on without attack
From hell's angels who rule over lust for money, career, food ...
After all, I cannot survive on bread alone, or wine and crack
"Let your heart not be troubled," said Jesus my Lord;
Promising "I will never leave you" and that He'll be back!
"In my father's house are many mansions; If it were not so
I would have told you." And He goes to prepare a place ...
(Today I believe it includes one for me. Tomorrow, doubt once more)
But I thank Phillip, the disciple, who kept an innocent face
To ask Jesus to show him God just once ... question and answer, as you know:
"Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me ..."
And that His followers would do greater works (as Pentecost did show)
And best of all, He said He would not make orphans of you and me
For I have become orphaned on earth; the pain does grow and grow
As Mother's Day and Father's Day come, go, come and go
"A little while longer and the world will see me no more,
but you will see me." The Logos, the Bible, rules ... my soul tells me so!
