Let Me

Roberta Baxter
I want you to know I will remember you all my life.

If I look at the crescent moon

at the raging sea near my dwelling,

If I feel the wind as it whisks at my face

so gently touching my lips as well.

All those press me to think of you for all my life.

But if you decide not to allow me into your heart, now or ever more

Don't look for me to welcome you in my life if you won't let me.

Everything that exists today or is a remembrance of you

will keep you close for ever.

If your decision is to push me away and keep moving

to not dwell in my heart,

Know that I will become distant to you and not in my life.

If you can forget me

Just know each flower that blooms will allow me the sweetness of the roses you gave me.

That scent will be with me all my life.

I don't want to forget

I don't want to push you away

I don't want to not be in your heart

I don't want to become distant

I will keep you in my present for as long as I am breathing

With very little from you, I could be engulfed again in your presence as I once knew.

I live for that day , for you to let me be in your life again

My interest in poetry began 10 years ago with writing for my own mental cleansing. Wanting to share some of my poems with others is now why I am on this site. I love composing all material.  View profile
