Let Members of Your Bridal Party Choose Their Own Dresses

Katherine Huether
My sister is getting married next spring and she did something that you don't see a lot of brides doing. She's giving her bridesmaids control over which dress they choose. She ended up selecting a color, a material, and a designer and is simply entrusting her bridal party to choose a dress.

I think it's wonderful. We all have different shapes and heights. Some of us may end up being pregnant by the time the wedding rolls around. This is a perfect solution to all of these issues.

Are you wondering if you should do the same thing for your wedding? Here are the top reasons why I think this doing this makes sense.

People Know What they Look Best In

It took me five minutes to select the best dress for me. Years of dress shopping and making mistakes resulted in my having an understanding of which style best suits my figure. This cuts down on hassle and strife. Yes, I've seen weddings turn into disaster because bridesmaids weren't happy with their dress.

Bridesmaids Can Focus on What's Really Important

A happy bridesmaid bolsters the whole wedding party. I've seen weddings end in disaster over silly things like not approving of the dress. When one bridesmaid is unhappy, it makes the bride's job harder. They're busy planning a wedding and the bridesmaids need to help and support her, not stress out about the dress they'll be wearing.

Interesting Wedding Photos

I think having different dresses is aesthetically pleasing and will make for some interesting and even artistic wedding photos. The goal of the wedding party is to make the bride and groom look their best. When the dresses are different and the bridal party is happy, it helps make the bride and groom look even better.

Select a Dress in Your Budget

This is also a good option for those who may be on a budget. Weddings can be expensive for the bridesmaids. This way, you can select a nice dress that meets the requirements but is also within your budget. The last thing people want to do is spend their savings on a dress just because the bride picked it.

If you are trying to figure out what to do about your bridal party's dresses, consider this option. It's unique and helps bolster morale within the bridal party so they'll be in the right frame of mind to support you on your big day.
