Let the Summer Off-Roading Adventures Begin!

Jessica Rowe
No matter if you are on gravel, sand, mud, riverbeds, rock or snow, off-roading is a way of driving all its own.

This last weekend in Pomona, Calif., the 2008 Championship Off-Road Racing (CORR) began.

Saturday's off-roading left Rob MacCachren (newest Pro 2 driver for Menzies Motorsports), in first place in the Pro 2 and Pro Buggy events. Marty Hart came in first in the Pro Lite and Carl Renezeder in the Pro 4, bringing in his 60th win for Team Renezeder.

Sunday's results included Rob MacCachren in first again for the Pro 2 and Pro Buggy, where he led every lap. Chad Hord was the winner in the Pro Lite after battling with Robert Naughten in the last lap and Carl Renezeder was the winner in the Pro 4.

The next CORR race is scheduled for May 17 and 18 at the Las Vegas International Off-Road Raceway.

Coming up on July 24, 25, 26 and 27 are the 55th annual Jeepers Jamboree and the 29th annual Jeep Jamboree. Being that the Jeepers Jamboree is the largest, oldest and hardest organized event of this type, by the time it has ended more than 101,440 people and 34,795 vehicles will have gone over the Rubicon Trail.

Although starting in Georgetown, Calif., the off-roading begins about 40 miles away at Loon Lake. It is slow going to Rubicon Springs at an elevation above 6,000 feet but full of excitement and fun.

This spectacular event, where off-roading is done between 3 and 5 miles per hour, also provides live entertainment, assistance with camping, prize drawings and games. Here it is not as much about speed as it is skill.

Excitement will be coming to Cedar City, Utah, on May 17 and 18 for the world Extreme Rock Crawling Championship Series. Two time World Champions, driver Dean "Ice Man" Bulloch and spotter "Krazy Karl" Munford, are returning this season in a new vehicle and hoping to finish strong.

Dean Bulloch has nearly 20 years of rock crawling under his belt and Krazy Karl has been spotting for Dean and led him to many victories over the last several seasons.

People say that the best and most durable rock crawling tires would be those of BFGoodrich. Vehicles with BFGoodrich tires have been winners in rock crawling competitions including UROC, ProRock, RCAA, CalRoc and others. Choice tires for rock crawling would be the Krawler T/A KX and BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM.
