Let Them Eat Cake: Dressing as Marie Antoinette for Halloween

Mary Miracle
Marie Antoinette was born on November 2, 1755 in November 2 and passed away on October 16, 1793 in Paris at the age of 37. She became the Dauphine de France at the age of 14 when she married Louis-Auguste, Dauphin of France. When King Louis the 15th died in May of 1774, her husband became King and she became Queen of France. She eventually had four children. During the French Revolution she was convicted of treason and executed by guillotine.

Many became enamored with her style due to the 2006 film Marie Antoinette written & directed by Sofia Coppola and starring Kirsten Dunst & Jason Scwartzman. It's a flashy film that shows both the fun she had when she realized her wealth & the loneliness that she suffered prior to finally giving birth. Jason Schwartzman gained 45lbs. to play the disinterested King Louis the 16th. The film cost $40 million to make. It combines a period film with modern music such as "I Want Candy".

You may want to pick up the film to get a feel for the look. It is only $9.49 at Amazon.com.

Marie Antoinette DVD Or you can purchase the book Queen of Fashion: What Marie Antoinette Wore to the Revolution for $10.88. http://bit.ly/eRhAO

For the hair do, you can either style your own hair if it's long enough or buy a wig. I suggest the Marie Antoinette Hair & Makeup YouTube Video When it comes to wigs, you also get to choose your favorite color. My favorite is the Blond with Pink Bows Marie Antoinette Wig for $24.95. The Marie Antoinette Light Pink Wig is certainly eye catching for $38.50. The Adult Blond Marie Antoinette Wig is a bargain at $14.99. Maybe a Brunette Marie Antoinette Wig is more your style for $39.99.

When it comes to shoes the Marie Antoinette Brocade Shoes are the best way to go. They are available in sizes 6-10 & in ivory, blue, black or pink for $64.99. If you just can't wear heels, pick up the Clear Flat with Crystal Detail for $32. They are available in gold or silver & in sizes 5.5-10.

When it comes to accessories you may want a petticoat . The cutest one I found has a gold or silver trim. It sells for $13 & the size is a Women's Standard. If your gown didn't come with a necklace, pick up the Deluxe Pearl Choker Necklace with Cameo for $19.97. If you want a fan you can go with a lace fan for $25 in white or black or a feather fan for $10. Trashy Lingerie has a wide array of masks with feathers on a stick for $25. They come in many colors including pink, white or gold. This can help you recreate the feeling of the masquerade ball scene from the film. For your make up, I recommend the Foundation Primer from Lime Crime Makeup for $15. You can also pick up some gorgeous eye glitter or Magic Dust while you are there.

Now, what are you waiting for? Party like it's 1775.
