Let's Count it Down! - Top 10 Christmas Songs

Alex K.
Christmas, oh what a glorious and FUN time of the year! There are literally thousands of songs dedicated to this special occasion. Not necessarily a countdown per se, but rather a general collection of happy and pop-y songs for the holidays. Am I serious? Perhaps.

Warning: This is truly a random list but I hope that you'll have as much fun as I did in putting it together. And thank you YouTube!

10 - Winter Wonderland - Jason Mraz

So happy and upbeat! Are you listening??? What more could you ask for at Christmas? If you're up for a bit of fun and dancin' as you sing along, then give our Mr. A to Z a listen! Jason Mraz brings about a wonderful cover of this Christmas 'classic'.

9 - All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey

She could've asked for a car, a ring or what the heck, she could've asked for the whole world. But no, you ain't gonna need any of that on Christmas! Because on that special day, Santa Claus don't make me happy! All I want for Christmas is you! Of course, I really hope Mariah wasn't singing about Nick because he would've been around 14 when this song was released back in 1994.

8 - Angels We Have Heard On High - Sixpence None The Richer

Glory to The God in the Highest indeed, this is what Christmas is all about! Or maybe we could just take the last song and capitalize the letter Y in you. Yes God, all I want for Christmas is You! Really though, Sixpence commits to a beautiful version of Angels.

7- Feliz Navidad - Jose Feliciano

Elise navidah? I should probably never be ballowed to sing this song, ever. But what can I say? It's so darn catchy! I want to wish you a Merry Christmas from the bottom of my heart! - Can't get more heartfelt than that.

6 - Grown-Up Christmas List - Kelly Clarkson

Here's a hint for what's going to come later - this isn't the only song that makes you want to get your knees and sob like a little child. I know I said happy and pop-y earlier, so I chose Kelly Clarkson's version to make it a bit more pop. Have you ever been in a large crowd when this song came on? You literally want to bust out your cellphone and start swinging from side to side. Oh the dramatics.

5 - 12 Days Of Christmas - Relient K

I promise you that I didn't get too lazy to find a link for this video. YouTube's been having a lot of fun removing unauthorized sound tracks, and it seems that this song has fallen victim to their merciless efforts. Go ahead and try to find it though; a little punk-pop twist couldn't hurt.

4 - Jingle Bell Rock - Aly & AJ

Interesting version isn't it? What more could you ask for on Christmas than two pretty looking girls rocking out to Jingle Bell in their little Santa costumes? How's this for a Christmas song? Yum.

3 - Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - Luther Vandross

I feel like we've slowed down somewhat. I chose this version because I think it was the one that stayed very true to the original, or at least compared to a lot of other ones. Apparently, the original is the #2 song on ASCAP's "Top 25 Holiday Songs". You the man Luther, you the man!

2 - Last Christmas - Geor... Oh, Wham!

If you managed to make it this far down the list, I tip my hat off to you ma'ams and sirs. I honestly could not bare to listen to this song in its entirety. But I have a special attachment to George Michael, simply because a childhood friend went by that exact same name (he was met with great adoration from our female teachers). Irrelevant point: this goes to show what a great effect our childhood memories can have on us. Mothers and fathers alike, treat your children well!

Are we ready for #1??!

1 - Christmas Shoes - Newsong

"Sir, I wanna buy these shoes for my mama please." I can't finish the chorus without having to stop myself from breaking apart. I mean literally, these guys sat down to think of how to make you cry. Mama? Jesus? Christmas??? The little boy's love for his mom. The stranger's kindness. Oh my God, this could possibly be a song that comes to embody what really matters on this beautiful day; love.

Christmas is a great time of the year. Families can get together to share in good times and laughters. But as Newsong put it, we need to be reminded what Christmas is all about. For Christians like me, it means the beginning of True Love. Maybe that's not quite what it means for you, but it doesn't hurt to put on a smile and be nice on Christmas, right?

Merry Christmas!
