Mississippi has been highlighted recently for being the most obese state in America.
The recent news from Mississippi concerns a controversial bill in the legislature to force restaurants to refuse to serve obese people.
The bill failed to even be considered as it was killed in committee. The idea of telling people they can't eat because they are already too obese
is foolish. The idea of encouraging people to lose weight and become healthier is not foolish.
As a physician, I see firsthand the damage that obesity can cause to our health and our enjoyment of life. It increases our heath costs tremendously.
I would like to highlight another approach which has been promoted in Mississippi to combat the obesity and which deserves the type of publicity that
This ill conceived bill attracted to our state.
The Let's Go Walking Mississippi campaign is something everyone in our state can be proud of. I have been a resident of Mississippi since 1979 and I am very proud of the positive changes that have occurred during the last 29 years. Mississippi has its share of problems but certainly no more so than Louisiana where I was born and went to high school, college, and Medical school. I have lived in Texas, California, and Maryland and all have their problems. My sons were raised and educated in Mississippi and they went on to graduate with their degrees at Tulane, Notre Dame and Pepperdine respectively.
Please go to the home website and see the positive efforts by Mississippians to fight obesity.
