Let's Hear it for Satan!

Tony Walker
In a world that seems to be continually searching for new answers to the problems faced by mankind, perhaps we should take a look at an alternative to the notion that 'God' is 'great'. All of the mainstream religions, be they Christian, Jewish, or Muslim, give their particular 'one God' the leading role, and place the devil (given various names) in the role of villain. He's the evil one; the one you scare defenseless children with; the one who will torture you for all eternity if you don't follow the precepts of your particular brand of religion.

Let's look at the evidence that the devil/Lucifer/Satan is 'evil'. Where did it come from? The Xtian bible, of course. All religions need a bad guy, just to show that their 'good' guy (JC in the case of the Xtians) is so much 'better'. It's simple contrast; in the New Testament, JC wears the white hat, while poor old Satan gets to be the villain, without any real evidence being provided. Oh, sorry, yes ... the babble - whoops! I meant the bible. That's the Word of Ghard, not to be questioned, not never, not nohow.

Sorry, on this evidence, you can't convince me that Satan is the ultimate evil.

As an aside, if Ghard is Love, why did he have 'his only son' killed? To me, that's the work of an insane pervert. If you or I had one of our children killed, we'd quite rightly be immediately arrested, tried, convicted, and either executed, or banged up in a jail cell for life. His followers; aren't they the ones that have killed non-believers for the last thousand years? That's love?

On the other hand, Satan doesn't lay down any rules or conditions for living. He doesn't tell you to hack chunks off the penis of defenseless male infants, or wear the sacred jockstrap, or funny hats. He doesn't tell you not to shave your beard, or not to drink a natural product; alcohol. He doesn't tell you that eating pork, lobster, or shellfish is 'sinful'. He doesn't try and micro-manage your life. He's cool! Maybe he should have had a better press agent.

But that's just my opinion
