"Let's Make It": Indianapolis Colts--Tennessee Titans: Jan. 2, 4:15 PM, (EST)

Hugh Houchin
This is the last game of the regular season and the Colts will win the AFC South Division, if:

• The Colts or the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday games end in a tie.

• The Jaguars lose their regular season ending game against the Houston Texans.

• The Colts defeat the Tennessee Titans.

Indianapolis center Jeff Saturday said a team goal this year was to control their own destiny at the end of the season. Now, going into the last game of the regular season the Colts control their own destiny, and Saturday said, "Let's make it, that's kinda the motto at this time." This season has been a never ending saga of "let's make it," for Indianapolis. Injuries decimated the team and they continually fielded a make-shift team, until it took its toll. Quarterback Peyton Manning started to push and began throwing interceptions at inopportune times. The whole team seemed to go flat and lost three consecutive games in November, and relinquished their hold on first place. However, the AFC's 2010 Super Bowl representative regrouped, and has now won three consecutive games, regained first place in the AFC South, and control their own destiny going into Sunday's game with the Titan's.

The 9-6 Colts and 6-9 Titans are polar opposites at the present time. After Tennessee finished strong last season, prognosticators felt the Titans would challenge the Colts for a playoff berth this year. Tennessee began this season at 5-2 but lost seven of their last eight games, and rumors of a head coaching change at Tennessee float around the league. However, when asked about his team's motivation for this game, head coach Jeff Fischer said the right things. The motivation is "to go out and win the last football game of the year," Fischer said. "We don't bring up the "quit" word. There is no quit in this football team." Fischer, though, agreed the level of motivation is different when he said, "they need to win this to win the division and we need to win it to win it." That statement just about suns it up.

  • If they defeat Tennessee the Colts win the AFC South, and go the playoffs.
  • The Titans started this seaon 5-2, but have lost 7 of their 8 last games.
  • The Colts lost many players to injuries this year, but have played through them.
The losing season Tennessee is experiencing may put head coach Jeff Fisher's job in jeopardy.
