Let's Move Campaign and President's Challenge: The Obamas Help Adults Lose Weight Too

Summer Banks
Let's Move to stop childhood obesity is the force behind the campaign to develop a fitter, less obese generation of adults. The campaign states facts and statistics regarding the increase in childhood obesity and how that increase affects our children and families. There is information about how parents and children can get out and move more, eat healthier diets and impact the community, but there is more to the Let's Move campaign than advice on stopping obesity. For the first time ever, adults are encouraged to sign up for the Let's Move campaign and take part in the President's Challenge for fitness, giving adults a one-two punch against adult obesity.

How Can Michelle and Barack Obama Truly Change the Face of America?

With a combined effort between President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, the Let's Move campaign and President's Challenge take the guesswork out of the most common New Year's resolution: This year I will eat better, move more and lose weight. The Let's Move campaign allows anyone, young or old, to sign up from the official website. There is a three step process to signing up for those who truly want to dedicate themselves to ending obesity.

Take the Pledge - the official pledge can be taken on the official Let's Move website.

Find a Local Meetup - locate a local spot where people are joining together to lose weight.

Partnership for a Healthier America - click on the photo and join the partnership on an external website.

Once users have joined the Let's Move campaign and the Partnership for a Healthier America, they can move on to the President's Challenge. The President's Challenge is a bit different than the Let's Move campaign in that users register for the challenge and choose a challenge they wish to complete. All progress can be tracked on the official website with combined totals being listed for the world to see (anonymously). Totals include how many people have signed up for the President's Challenge and total awards given to President's Challenge participants. What programs are available for adults who want to make a healthy change?

The Adult Fitness Test is similar to the Physical Fitness test for children performed in school each year, but with adult fitness in mind. Tests instructions are offered online and adults enter in results of the tests for a fitness evaluation.

The Presidential Active Lifestyle Award, also known as PALA, is for people who are inactive but want to make a change. The online account allows users to track physical fitness and qualify for the PALA award.

The Presidential Champions Challenge is a bit different as it focuses on people who are active but want to increase that activity or take it to a higher level. Again, progress can be tracked online and an award is given when goals are reached.

There is nothing more important than keeping your body physically fit and healthy. With a healthier diet and exercise, sleep improves, illness occurs less often and the risk of contracting certain illnesses like adult onset diabetes is reduced. Children learn from adults, so parents need to get out there and join the Obama family to help change the face of the earth, one physical fitness test or challenge at a time.
