Let's Say Thanks to Our Troops

Xerox Corp. Makes it Easy to Show Your Gratitude

L.L. Woodard
In a time when so many corporations are failing, or are on the brink of doing so, and looking to the American taxpayer for bailouts, it's refreshing to learn of a major corporation that is not only standing on its own two feet, but also sponsoring a program that brings cheer from home to our troops. Xerox is sponsoring a community outreach program that extends worldwide-to U.S. troops wherever they may be.

The outreach program is called Let's Say Thanks. It's a simple concept, but by judging from the comments from many of the program's recipients, it's a concept where a very little accomplishes much. The Let's Say Thanks program allows Internet visitors to access the program's website, http://www.letssaythanks.com, to choose from a variety of postcards with patriotic themes and hometown images for Xerox to send for inclusion into care packages sent by the military support organization, Give2TheTroops, to U.S. military men and women around the globe.

It costs nothing to visit the site and it costs nothing to participate in the program. Once you've chosen which card you'd like to send, you can then choose from a variety of messages, or write your own message, that will be put on that card and sent per regular mail to a service person. The illustrations on the postcards were drawn by children, making the impact of the cards even greater.

Through the Let's Say Thanks program it isn't possible to name a specific recipient of the postcard you are sending, but if you wish to send one to a specific person yourself, you can download one of the cards from the website.

These postcards cannot contain email addresses, home addresses, or other personal contact information from the sender. The main focus of the program is to let American service people know how people in the states feel about their service and dedication to country and duty.

Xerox invites people to visit their Let's Say Thanks site as often as they'd like and to send more than one card at a time if they choose.

If you find yourself interested in doing more than sending a postcard to the troops, you might consider contacting the not-for-profit Give2TheTroops at their website: http://www.give2thetroops.org. They can let you know what other type of assistance is needed in your community.

Another AC Content Producer, Julia Bodeeb, has written an article here with many additional resources of ways to give something back to our troops: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1256329/help_soldiers_and_veterans_at_the_holidays.html?cat=7
