Let's Do Some Healthy Activities for Thanksgiving Weekend

Rachel Heller
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because I am around my friends, family, and a bunch of mouth-watering food. Yes, I admit it, come Thanksgiving time, I can't wait to make and eat turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, and a variety of delicious desserts ranging from chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin pies to cranberry and pumpkin scones. However, as much as I love the traditional and some non-traditional Thanksgiving food, I realize that Thanksgiving weekend should also be a time for engaging in some healthy activities. Therefore, I suggest that people do some healthy activities during Thanksgiving weekend. In fact, for your healthy holiday pleasure, here are eight healthy activities to do for Thanksgiving weekend.

* Take a nice walk in a park: I like to take a little walk in the park outside my house everyday. I recommend taking a walk before and after sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner. Walking before dinner will help work up an appetite and walking after dinner will help get rid of the calories put on due to eating Thanksgiving dinner. In addition, walking after Thanksgiving dinner might provide a bit of extra room for an another piece of pie for dessert.

* Take a bike ride in the park: I like to take a bike ride in the park too. Bike riding is a fun and healthy activity that will get Thanksgiving weekend off to a good start. Bike riding on Thanksgiving weekend is healthier than watching football.

*Ice Skate: Ice skating is the perfect healthy holiday activity and ice skating rinks seem to open in time for Thanksgiving weekend; nothing says welcome to the holiday season than a day of ice skating.

*An outing to the movie theatre: I go to the movies with my family every Thanksgiving weekend. This is a healthy Thanksgiving weekend activity because going to the movies is a shared experience and it is great fun to discuss the movie afterward with the family. Spirited discussions with family can also be a healthy Thanksgiving weekend activity.

* Get Crafty: Crafting is a healthy Thanksgiving weekend activity. I have made a quilt square with a poem on it. This Thanksgiving weekend I plan to begin my first scarf.

* Write: I love writing poems and I usually write in journal daily. Writing is a creative activity and it stimulates the mind.

* Yoga: Thanksgiving weekend can be stressful and yoga is a healthy activity that relieves stress.

* Sleep: Sleep is a healthy Thanksgiving weekend activity because it helps refresh people for more holiday fun to come.

* Play with new puppy: I just got a new puppy named Snickers and playing with him gives me much energy. Sources: none
