Arts and Crafts Activities for the Letter N

Cut out necktie shapes from construction paper and let the children decorate their own neckties with crayons, markers, glitter, stickers, and sequins. Punch two holes at the top of the necktie and thread a piece of yarn through to loosely tie the neckties so they can be hung around each child's neck.

Use pieces of string and cut up straws or macaroni to make necklaces.

Active Play Activities for the Letter N

Have a noisy parade. Find objects that make a lot of noise, such as play instruments, pots and pans with spoons, megaphones, bells, and whistles. March around the school making as much noise as possible. Don't forget to warn other teachers and neighbors to the school beforehand.

Go on a nature walk in a nearby park. Give each child a paper lunch bag to pick up leaves, sticks, and small stones. Let them press their natural objects onto a piece of contact paper, then press a piece of blank paper over the contact paper to preserve their nature collage.

Bring in pictures of nocturnal animals that like are awake mostly at night, such as owls, mountain lions, raccoons, opossums, and cats.

Early Math Activities for the Letter N

Glue a picture of a nickel that has been printed on grey paper onto a piece of construction paper. Draw and equal sign and glue five pennies that have been cut out of brown construction paper to the other side.

Early Literacy Activities for the Letter N

Talk about the meaning of nothing. Fill several boxes with a few small toys, such as jacks or marbles, and leave several others empty. For fun, fill a couple with feathers or tissues. Hand out the boxes to the kids and let them shake their box in turn. Let them shake the box and guess if there is something in the box or nothing. Then open the box to reveal what is inside.

Snack Time for the Letter N

Make nachos by melting Velveeta cheese and pouring a little into small bowls for each child to dip his or her chips into.
