Arts and Crafts Activities for the Letter Z
Give each child several pieces of rickrack to make a collage of zig-zag patterns.
Give each child a picture of a zebra without its stripes printed on white paper. Let them draw on the stripes with black crayons, markers, or colored pencils.
Let each child color a picture of a child sleeping so that it looks like him or her. Explain that sometime people draw Zs to show that someone is sleeping. Let each child draw some Zs above his or her picture.
Early Math and Science Activities for the Letter Z
Explain what the number zero means. Fold a piece of paper into quarters. Instruct each child to write zero in one square, one in the next square, two in the next square, and three in the last square. Give let each child use a stamp and an ink pad to make one stamp in the box with the number one and so forts. Leave the zero box blank.
Zucchini grow easily and quickly from seeds. Show each child how to make a mound of dirt and press several zucchini seeds into the top. Let them make a moat around the mound to fill with water. In a few weeks, zucchini plants should be growing. Make watering the zucchini a chore on the weekly chore chart. Remember that zucchini like a lot of water!
Active Play Activities for the Letter Z
Read "From Head to Toe" by Eric Carle and let the kids act out the actions of the animals as you read it. Then let them choose any zoo animal they want to act like.
Let each child have a piece of sidewalk chalk to draw zig-zag patterns on the sidewalk or asphalt outside.
Early Literacy Activities for the Letter Z
Learn the song "Zip-a-dee-do-dah" from the Disney movie Song of the South.
Make a list as a class of different animals that you would find at a zoo. Bring in the book "Good Night Gorilla" and let the children take turns explaining what is happening in the picture.
Snack Time for the Letter Z
Make zucchini bread or muffins. Add a cup of chocolate chips to the batter before making to make the bread more kid-friendly.
