Letter to My Mother

I lied when I said I might not be able to get you anything for Mother's Day. I got you a toaster oven. But this is kinda besides the point.

When I told you I couldn't get you anything you told me not to worry about it. "It's just another day," you said. I was a little shocked when you said that. You see, Mother's Day might be a day where we celebrate our mothers but the day really belongs to the children. You wouldn't be a mother without us and dad. This day is ours. I am privileged to make you happy because I am thankful I have a mother like you. I love Mother's Day because I can show off how much I love my momma to everybody!

Now I know what you're thinking. "What about any other day? Why just today?" Mom, you nag too much for me to get an "I love you" in edge wise. We argue about my room and my chores and stuff and by the time I walk away I forgot to show you the love and affection a phenomenal mother, like you, deserves from her first born child. Yeah I don't have a job and this economy is tough. And, yeah, I'm trying to make it in the entertainment business and I know its tough being the mother of a child who is trying to do that. I know I might be a little distant from you sometimes. I know it could be frustrating trying to get to know you me all over again when I am at that age. I know I am not perfect and I know I'm a little 'too much' but you see past all of that, ma. I love you for that. You always look out for your baby boy (OMG), just as I would for you.
