Would-be America's Sweethearts Keep Trying to Surpise Us

Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston are no longer a couple, but they continue to put themselves in the news. E Online reported on Thursday that Bristol will be one of the new contestants on the upcoming season of Dancing With the Stars. For his part, Levi Johnston on Thursday gave an interview, to be aired on Friday morning, to CBS' Early Show.

The entire saga of Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston has taken so many turns that it seems difficult to keep up with.

This year alone, Levi became a gay icon by posing nude in Playgirl Magazine, apologized to the Palins, got engaged to Bristol, was the subject of paternity rumors involving a former girlfriend, shot a music video mocking the Palins, broke up with Bristol, and announced his intention to run for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska as central theme of an upcoming reality show.

Until now, Bristol has seemingly kept a lower profile, or at least has tried to, and, as her mother Sarah Palin does, has spent time preaching conservative family values such as pre-marital abstinence, despite the fact that she was the mother of Sarah Palin's illegitimate grandson.

Bristol is a single mother and says she is focused on being the best mother that she can, but apparently has found time in her schedule to be a contestant on Dancing With the Stars, the hit ABC show entering its eleventh season.

For quite some time now, it has seemed that the expiration of Bristol and Levi's fifteen minutes of fame are imminent. And yet the offers to appear in things such as reality shows and celebrity dance contests apparently keep coming for these would be America's sweethearts.

As the nation, and maybe even the world, eagerly anticipates the airing of Levi Johnston's interview with CBS's Early Show, some teasers were leaked.

In the interview, Levi says that his only regret over the past year is that he apologized for the things he said about the Palins. For those who have not kept up on the news, Levi was sharply critical of the Palins, and particularly Sarah Palin, after his first break up with Bristol. He accused Sarah of referring to her baby son, who suffers from Down's Syndrome, as 'retarded'. He also said that Sarah resigned as Alaska governor in order to cash in on book deals.

After reconciling with Bristol earlier this year, Johnston largely backed away from those statements. In his interview with CBS, however, he reportedly makes it sound as if he meant it after all.

Levi also discusses Bristol's participation on Dancing with the Stars and his plans to run for mayor.

While it seems inevitable that Bristol and Levi will soon fade from the scene, both of them are working very hard to stay in the news.
