Lewisville High School Football Player Dies After Collapsing on Football Field

The students of Lewisville High School are mourning the death of fellow high school student Brian Colvin, a football player on the school team. Colvin was just 18-years old when he collapsed on the football field during a preseason football game on Friday night. Standing at 5-foot-9,165-pound, Colvin appeared to be in perfect health prior to his collapse on the field. The running back/defensive back and his teammates were taking on Westminster Catawba Christian School in the Chester County Football Jamboree.

Leading Westminister Catawba 7-0, the game official Tommy Woodard first notice that something was wrong when Colvin went out of bounds on a play. The young running back begun to have "seizure-like" movement on the field and was taken to Chester Regional Medical Center, according to the Chester County Chief Deputy Coroner Tommy Williams. By 7:46 PM, Colvin, a senior, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Rusty Pemberton, Lewisville High School's athletic director, had warm words to says about the young athlete. According to Pemberton, large crowds of students and those who knew the running back gathered in memory of the football player. The death of the young football player has shocked everyone attending the school. As students gather to pay their respects, the high school students received confirmation that their next matchup with York was canceled in honor of the 18-year running back.

Colvin's death has touched the entire community who knew the fine football player and athlete. The young talented athlete excelled on the track team as well as the football team. Representing the Loins' track team last season, he finished in second place in the Class A 100-meter sprint state championship.

Lewisville's former football coach Floyd Drum remembers Colvin fondly. Drum coached the football team until 2008. "During the summer we did some computer work to up his grades," said Drum. "He was a great kid; a quality kid. I can honestly say I never heard an ugly word from him," Drum added. "He felt he could outrun everyone."
