To kick off your vacation a trip to downtown Lexington is a good place to start. With a host of different activities and events going on throughout the year, there's always something for everyone including: arts and crafts, theater, music, and festivals for kids. You can also just take a lazy day stroll.
Shaker Village
Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill has a self-guided tour. This is the largest historic community landmark of its kind. It covers an estimated 2800 acres of farmland and is representative of the Shaker's lifestyle during the 19th century. When visiting the Shaker Village, you will be impressed with the wonderful kinds of activities you can enjoy and partake in like: watching a live reenactment of how the Shakers made brooms during the time period when they were living in the Village. You can also take a riverboat excursion along the Kentucky River Palisades.

Raven Run Nature Sanctuary is also located in Lexington, Kentucky and should be a definite stop on your journey. The Sanctuary covers 470 acres with scenic wildlife landscapes and housing over 400 different species of plants. During the spring, it is known for its array of wild flowers.
Lexington Parks
Lexington has numerous parks where you can spend time playing and relaxing. Jacobsen Park, on Richmond Road, boasts a big wooden "creative playground" that is great for young children with lots of energy. There are swinging bridges, castle towers, places to hide and so much room for climbing it is unbelievable. There is a large lake that permits fishing. If you are interested in a little water fun, you can rent paddle boats. No park that has a lake is without water fowl and Jacobsen is no different. There are lots of duck to feed so bring extra bread.
There is another "creative playground" in Shilto Park which is off Nicholasville Road.
Woodland Park is near the Chevy Chase area. This is a pretty good size urban park as it is nestled between neighborhoods and campus. You will often be able to find art fairs and festivals going on. During the summer you will want to know that this park is home of one of Lexington's public swimming pools.
Triangle Park is located downtown between Vine and Main at Broadway. Triangle Park may be small but it has an ambience all its own. You have to take time for a good look at the beautiful large fountain that wraps around the park's perimeter. There is no formal playground, but it has its own charm and is a serene place to sit and rest when touring the downtown Lexington area. If you are lucky, you might get to be entertained by street musicians,
For adults, a tour of one of the Kentucky distilleries is a fun afternoon activity. Exploring the bourbon distilleries, throughout the bluegrass region, is a fun activity and could take more than a day to accomplish. The region has many distilleries including: The Woodford Reserve, Buffalo Trace, Boulevard, and Four Roses. Each distillery has its own unique method of producing Kentucky's finest!
Parkkette Drive-in
Wouldn't it be great to experience a realistic 1950's diner? You can. Just go to the Parkette Drive-In. There is a sock hop mentality at the diner as carhops take and deliver your orders of Kentucky poor boy sandwiches and double-decker cheeseburgers. Be sure and try the malts and reminisce about the good old days.
