LG Dare vs. the Apple iPhone: A Comparison

LG Dare vs. the Apple iPhone: a comparison: The LG Dare is considered the "Prada" phone for Verizon. It is rumored to be released July 4. It is very sleek looking and it is similar to the Apple iPhone in many ways. So much in fact that many have said that it is basically an Apple iPhone knock-off. That being said; it is quite a "shiny" new toy for those on the Verizon network, and a welcome one at that.

Like the iPhone, this smart phone has the touch-screen face that matches almost identically the Apple iPhone. It supports Real's Rhapsody music service and uses micro SDHS cards. The capacity of those cards is 8GB plus in size. Not bad if you ask me. For those of you that know me and the Apple products however; it is going to have to do better than that to impress me. So, I began to dig a little deeper to see what else this baby could do. This is what I discovered.

The camera on the new LG Dare is significantly better than the Apple iPhone. Alright, then; now we are talking. The Apple iPhone comes with 2.0 megpaixels, and the LG Dare comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera. It is supposed to have the ability to adapt to low-light levels as well. Then, there is the picture editing tool that is built into the phone, and the ability for users to upload directly to social networking sites. That's just cool. So, the LG Dare is much better in that manner. It is perhaps up to your own personal tastes.

What about software and the all important ability to actually use other software on the LG Dare? Looks like it has all of the comparable software built-in that the Apple iPhone has. One thing that I found in the specs. that caught my attention was Brew. Brew is defined as Binary runtime for wireless. That means that the user can download and run software. Cool! Now we are talking. Can you say "hack your phone into custom"? Yes, you can. So far this is really good. I did some more investigating.

The bells and whistles of this thing look good. So, let's compare the basics that are actually extremely important as well. The LG Dare has 16 hours of talk time. The Apple iPhone claims to have 5 hours. Wow, that's significantly different.

The LG Dare has a display of 240 x 400 pixels and the Apple iPhone has 480 x 320 pixels. They are very similar actually in that, but the differences may mean something to you that another person may not care about; so it's worth mentioning for performance.

As to availability; the phone is not yet released to the public until July 2008. That's soon so perhaps get those orders in if you are looking to buy it since the availability is not yet known.

Everything else is very similar. The only thing that may affect you as the buyer is the look and basic feel. They are similar; but the Apple iPhone does have that sleek feel to it that the LG Dare does not. The interface is slightly different as well in that the Apple products just have that thing that attracts us all to the product line. Overall, the two are very similar; with the LG Dare leading in the picture department. It really comes down to how you like the look and feel of the LG Dare vs. the Apple iPhone. It may also be affected by the carrier; although any good tecno-hacker knows how to open a phone and customize it to their heart's content. So have fun with it.

I love the LG Dare! Have had it for about 5 months now, and it's AWESOME. All the features other commenters have mentioned. Text is smooth for a touch, fast, and accurate as the user. The camera is AWESOME quality, I use the video all the time to send to Grandparents of our daughter. A fun phone and excellent quality all around.

hi again! Oh yeah, another thing about the STORM....NO WiFi!!! How annoying is that? k, I think I got it all out. See you soon.

I just bought the Blackberry Storm the day it came out in stores. I have one week more to use it- I HATE it!!! So...I thought I would go onto this site and read about what ya'll is saying about the DARE, because I have been going back and forth between the DARE,Blackberry Storm, and the iPHONE.....hmmmm, iphone is just a pretty-boy-cellphone from what I read....so...thank you for your reviews- today I am marching over to Verizon and exchanging my stupid STORM to the DARE!!!
Why am I annoyed with the STORM? It's slow, and the WHOLE SCREEN has to be pressed when trying to txt...therefore, texting is NOT FLUID! Arghhh! Thanks again. I will post a review after I get my DARE today!

All I can say is stay away from Apple products. Apple is a terrible, proprietary company, as I've written before. Great article!
