Liberals, Conservatives, and Libertarians

Politically there are four types of people. The ignorant are people who ignore politics, so they don't know what political philosophy to embrace. When they vote, they vote for the candidate whose name they are most familiar with or whose personality they find most attractive. The majority of people are in this category. They don't know where their candidates stand on the issues, which is why they vote the way they do and why the nation is now in an economic crisis. They are too busy watching "Desperate Housewives" and "American Idol" to research political matters. They never watch the History Channel or PBS to find out why the nation is in the economic crisis that we are experiencing. PBS ran a great series of several programs covering the history of this country. It was more entertaining to me than any "Sit Com" ever on television. It astounds me that people are not interested in history. It has been said that those who forget history are doomed to repeat the mistakes again and again! I was in Dallas on November 22, 1963 and am convinced that it was the lone gunman, Lee Harvey Oswald, who killed John F. Kennedy that day. I watched the History Channel's documentary on the assassination. It was factual unlike the peace of fictional trash that came out of Hollywood called "JFK." In the movie one line said that Oswald was too poor a shot with a rifle to have killed Kennedy. He was such a poor shot that he only qualified "Sharpshooter" instead of "Expert" with a rifle in the Marines. Yeah, he was a poor shot. He missed on the first shot, hit Kennedy below the right shoulder on the second shot, and finally succeeded in his evil deed on the third shot. The shame of the piece of trash, "JFK", is that it has re-enforced the conspiracy theorists and created generations of people who falsely believe that there was another gunman, a conspirator, who killed JFK in Dallas that day. I remember that day well, before that day there was a great fear that some right wing fanatic might assassinate Kennedy in Dallas, "He didn't even have the satisfaction of being killed for civil rights . . . . It's - it had to be some silly little Communist." Jackie Kennedy, on hearing that a leftist had been arrested for her husband's murder.

Another type of political animal is a Liberal. Back in the 1930s the Communists set about taking over the U.S. Their first step was to infiltrate the colleges and, therefore, to gain the power that college graduates have over those with less education. To accomplish this they infiltrated college faculties. They sponsored the college education of young people who they successfully brain washed into the idiot political philosophy of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. (From each according to his (productive) ability, to each according to his (often lazy and good for nothing) needs.) They then assured that the college students who were most aggressive about Communism got the best grades and, therefore moved into the more successful professions. They often gave failing grades to those who opposed Communism. Politics is most attractive to Communists because they want to force everyone to live a life of slavery to the government, exactly what July 4, 1776 was all about fighting. They also are attracted to journalism and entertainment because, from these platforms, they can influence people by slanting the news and movies to favor Communism over the system of private and free enterprise. They were amazingly successful in their conspiracy.

About 1950, an American Patriot came along and recognized that the government and Hollywood had been severely infiltrated by Communists. He set out to find them and eliminate them. He may have been zealous in his efforts but, non-the-less, he managed to make the Communists go undercover. They changed the name of their political fanaticism from "Communist" to "Liberal" to make themselves acceptable. They managed to take over the Democratic Party and, to this day, most carry the mantra of "Liberal" rather than "Socialist" or "Communist" which is what they really are. They want to turn the U.S. into a cradle to grave, government controlled welfare state instead of the Libertarian Constitutional Republic that it was designed to be. They so maligned the American patriot, Joseph McCarthy, that his name will forever be associated with the negative aspects of zealous investigations of people who are anti-American, people who may blow up buildings or other places where there are gatherings of people for some Religious or political fanaticism.

If you call yourself a "Liberal" it is probable that you favor welfareism, don't like, and, therefore, don't listen to those who are "Conservatives." To the politically ignorant voter their government takeover platforms, such as health care, sound preferable compared to the platform of leaving problems to the States to solve. It doesn't dawn on the ignorant that different States have different problems and different solutions to problems that States have in common may work better in different States. Since they are politically ignorant they are, most likely, also ignorant of the fact that many nations in Europe and Canada have instituted government financed health care for everyone. As a result, their health care systems have become far inferior to what we have in the U.S. Someone asked the question. "Where will the rich Europeans and Canadians go to get better health care if we socialize medicine in the U.S.?" Someone else opined that, "If you think health care is expensive now, wait until it's free!" If you believe that I am calling Socialists and Communists ignorant, you are correct. Socialism, especially to the degree of Communism, has proved historically to be a failed philosophy. The more welfareism a nation institutes, the more people who become in need instead of more people becoming self-sufficient like they do in a more Libertarian system. Even ultra Liberals avoid the names that they should really be called, Socialists and Communists.

The other two types of Political animals are both called "Conservatives." There are two types of Conservatives now, Paleo-Conservatives and Neo-Conservatives. Neo-Conservatives want a central government with power to investigate and interfere in the private lives of people and a military powerful enough to obliterate any nation on earth. They cheered the invasion of Iraq and talk about invading Iran. Historically, the most recent nations that I can think of that practiced that type of foreign policy are Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany. Am I saying that Neo-Conservatives are really fascists, you are right, most of them are, "Today the fatherland, tomorrow the world!"

Paleo-Conservatives, of which I am proud to call myself one, are Libertarians. The founders of this nation were Libertarians. They experienced the tyranny of a dictatorship, King George III of England. They knew from experience that the more powerful a government the less liberty there is for the people. We Libertarians have been so debased by the Socialist and Fascists that even many of the politically ignorant hold us in contempt. It is taught by those who dislike Libertarianism that we are anarchists, intent on violently overthrowing the government. If that is true, why did the Libertarians who founded this nation organize a national government with limited powers instead of trying to violently eliminate all government as anarchists do? They were realists, not anarchists. They realized that anarchism leads to the violent rise of a tyrannical government. They founded a national government that had power enough to maintain an orderly and peaceful society, but limited enough that it could not interfere in the private lives of the people and very limited power to interfere with the governments of the sovereign States. James Madison wrote in Federalist Paper number 45 that "The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite."

I heard Cal Thomas of Fox news misquote Ben Franklin and I'll bet Ben would roll over in his grave if he had heard it. As the story goes, when the founders came out of the Constitutional Convention, a woman asked Ben Franklin what sort of government they had given us. Cal Thomas said, "A DEMOCRACY, If You Can Keep It!" What Ben Franklin actually replied was, "A REPUBLIC If You Can Keep It!" For about 75 years we did a decent job of keeping it then came the civil battle as to whether State's rights super-ceded federal power or not and we started losing it. There was a period of about 45 years and then, with the institution of the income tax and federal reserve, we really began to loose it. In the past 100 years we have virtually totally failed to keep the Republic, Sorry Ben! The founders were too intelligent to found a Democracy. They founded a Libertarian Constitutional Republic. They held Government power to interfere in the lives of people and commerce in extremely low esteem. The following are some of the things founders said about government power:
