User Interface
The interface is easy to navigate. The top left pane contains the list of items in your inventory. Beneath that is the list of borrowers. While I can't see loaning out my electronics, it was nice to see that I could list who the owner is for my husband's stereo.
To start entering inventory records, you will need to click on the New Item icon in the top left corner of the toolbar.
Inventory Database
The inventory records database is quite detailed. I'm surprised that they did not have any categories for stereos, so I had to wing it. Once you click the New Item icon, a "Basics" form will appear. Located beneath the Basics form are other forms, such as Details, Reviews, Ownership, Borrowing, and Additional.
Since there weren't any categories for stereo equipment, I made do by entering as much information in the Basics form as I could. Librarian Pro accepted the information and listed my husband's stereo in the main pane of the first window.
Next, I tried the books section. I could literally spend months entering in every book I have in the house. Not only can you enter in your items' vital information, but you can write reviews and give starred ratings. If you right-click on any of the items, you will create a new collection, which goes at the bottom of the default list.
Importing Other Databases
Librarian Pro will import databases from Delicious Library 2, Bruji, iTunes, and the software on your computer. You can also import text and CSV files that you have created so that you will not have to reenter every item that you painstakingly entered in your original document.
Exporting Your Database
Protect your database by making a backup copy of your inventory. You can export your database as a text file or an HTML file. You can also sync it to your iPod or iPhone. The iPhone requires the Data Guardian app. Choose exactly what you want to back up, whether it is everything in your inventory or special collections that you want to keep.
Conclusion
Librarian Pro is a robust utility that does more than catalog books. Use it to manage your collections, keep inventory for insurance purposes, or keep track of who you loaned your books and movies to.
