The Monroe County Public Library, located on Kirkwood Street in beautiful downtown Bloomington, is a great place to browse books, relax, or participate in the many other activities it has to offer on a regular basis. With two floors of media, the library hosts an Indiana Room, Genealogy Room, and large Children's Department. It offers extra services, such as tutoring, adult computer classes, and even a community garden! The Children's Department hosts programs for toddlers and young children, such as reading time and puppet performances. It offers a Parent/Teacher Resource Room, Preschool Exploration Center, and even a Homework Center. You are sure to find something for any age group at this beautiful library. The Indiana University Herman B. Wells Library, is located at 10th Street and Jordan Avenue. The library is housed in twin limestone towers on the gorgeous Indiana University Campus. The building contains more than 4.6 million volumes, including interdisciplinary research collections in international studies. The library is open to all residents, as well as students and staff of the university. Keep in mind that there is very little parking available for visitors on the IU campus. There are a few metered spaces located south of this library, but the easiest parking is located in the Jordan Avenue Parking Garage. For more information, call (812) 855-0100.

The Lilly Library, funded by Indiana University, is located at 1200 E. 7th Street. It hosts rare books, special collections and manuscripts. It is well known for its collections of American and British history, including George Washington's acceptance letter to the US Presidency. The library offers multiple events, ranging from exhibitions to lectures, literary readings to musical performances. Authors are often invited for book signings and receptions.
