Library Assistant: The Best College Campus Job

Whoever said that being a student worker is not 'cool' must be out of his mind. Sure you need to work instead of hang out with your friends somewhere else, but it is a fact that going to college is expensive, especially here in the United States and what better way to support yourself (or help your parents in the expenses) than be a student worker. Besides, having a job in college is something that any person should be proud of and an on campus job would be a great icing on the already delicious cake.

If you must know, one of the best campus jobs for any college students, anywhere in the country, is being a library assistant. The library is a great place to work, it has one of the best working environments within the campus and the people are mostly friendly, respectful, and courteous towards you. You don't have to worry about your work conflicting with your classes because you have the option to work full-time or part-time depending on your study load. Also, since you are a student, and the school values your education more than anything, they work around your class schedule and ensure that the work doesn't go between you and your diploma.

If you work in the library, the pay is usually better and it is more 'relaxed' than other on campus jobs. And if you like books, this is definitely the job you want. Also, when you borrow books (and you've been around for a bit) you will know how to go around the system (like changing or extending due dates). Since there are obvious downtimes in the library, you can use it to study or do your home works. Another thing you can do when it's slow is use the library internet to do researches for your papers.

The tasks involved in this job are enrolling new library users, assisting in sorting and cataloguing new materials when they come in, checking in and out library materials like books, magazines, CDs, and DVDs, dealing with customer inquiries in person and by phone, sending out notices for overdue books and reserved items, filing and shelving library materials, and ensuring that the library is clean.

The truth is, there are no specific entry requirements for one to become a library assistant. However, if you're interested in the best job on campus, basic research skills, familiarity with books, basic knowledge in computer applications, great sense for details, and interest in being around people are all the skills and qualifications that you need.
