Let's now discuss 3 questions in reference to Jehovah's Witnesses.
Why do Jehovah's Witnesses preach from house to house? Having a share in this preaching activity is not an easy task though. This is because many people do not want to hear what we have to say. There are many reasons for this. First, the majority of people have their own religion and their own beliefs that they say they are happy with. Then there are those who say that the Bible and the information contained in it are old and outdated, no longer applicable. Some do not believe that there is a God. The most difficult to deal with though, is that of people who just will not listen because of lies they have heard about Jehovah's Witnesses. As Jehovah's Witnesses we strive to obey all the requirements that God has set in the Bible. We try to follow all that the Bible says to the best of our ability each and every day. So going to people homes and teaching them about God is not easy. So then why we do it? First of all, as Matthew 28:19,20 tell us to go forth and make disciples teaching them all the things I have taught you. To fulfill this, action is required. Secondly, we participate in this work because of our love for God and for our neighbor in line with Matthew 22:37,38. You are probably familiar with John 3:16 that says that God loved the world so much that he gave his only begotten son so that those exercising faith might not be destroyed but have ever lasting life. If God loves us as imperfect sinners, how much more so should we love one another! We don't want any to be destroyed at the end of this system either. 1 Timothy 4:16 brings out that by doing these things you will save both yourself and those who listen to you. Just think, God is using his imperfect people to save others by teaching them about his requirements. What a privilege he has given us! Do Jehovah's Witnesses believe in Jesus? Of course they do. One Bible command we try to follow is found at 1 Peter 2:21 which brings out that Christ suffered for us leaving us a model to follow. How could we follow the model of someone we do not believe in? That would make any sense!
What beliefs make us different than other religions? One objection people have about Witnesses, is that they have their own Bible. We do use a different translation but what is taught in it is the same as any other translation. The only major difference is that most Bibles today have removed God's name. There are various reasons for this, such as, they feel that God's name, Jehovah, is too sacred to be spoken aloud. Also because no one is certain as to how it is pronounced, they feel they shouldn't use it at all. But think about this. If you had a friend who wasn't sure how to say your name, would you want them always to call you by a title such as "mister"? Most likely not. The Bible that I use is the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures available from anyone of Jehovah's Witnesses. The name Jehovah has been replaced in all of it's original locations. It can be found over 7,000 times!!! We feel this is so important because as written at Romans 10:13 in the King James translation, we are to call upon the name of the Lord to be saved. How do we call upon the name of the Lord without using his name Jehovah? Lord is not his name, it's a title like president. Having God's name in is original places, makes the Bible more understandable. Also in line with 2 Timothy 3:16, we feel that the entire Bible is inspired of God and that we should follow this instead of some creed based on human tradition.
All of our beliefs are firmly based on the Bible. We have not allowed human tradition and customs to alter our thinking. Our standards never change because the Bible never changes. Another thing that is different, is that although we believe in Jesus, we don't celebrate his birth as many do. We do not celebrate Christmas or Easter. Actually we do not celebrate any holidays. This is not because we are weird or don't like to have fun. Rather it's because through alot of research, we have discovered that all these holidays and the customs associated with them, have pagan origins making them unsuitable for Christians to participate in. We do have parties and give gifts at other times of the year, though. They only thing we commemorate annually, is the death of Christ. At Luke 22 we can read about the last supper and in verse 19 Jesus commanded his followers to keep doing this in remembrance of me. We do this every year in the same way that Jesus did with his disciples. Well this is just a little bit of ACCURATE and UP-TO-DATE information on the beliefs and teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses. I hope I have helped you to see the truth and the importance of researching what you read to make sure it is truthful.!!!

"Any reasonable person would agree that in a hundred years time, a persons opinions and understanding of things will likely change. So even if those quotes were accurate at the time of there writing, through the years clarifications have been made."
"All of our beliefs are firmly based on the Bible. We have not allowed human tradition and customs to alter our thinking."
Does that mean that 100 years ago, the Bible said something different or that it was interpreted wrong? If the latter, who says you're not interpreting it wrong now?
thank you for pointing out these extremely important topics that many people are not very clear on. I am a Jehova's Witness.
I'm ex-JW and tried hard to believe other wise. I visited and became member of other believes in other denominations. This went on for twelve long years. I played guitar and sang for the churches, but could never get the complete satisfaction of a full spiritual meal. As time has gone by, I have thought it over. And, I now start visiting the Jehovah Witnesses with a more open mind.

I am a previous JW, and tho I still feel that the principle, core goal and beliefs are VERY accurate to the Bible, more so than any other theology, I cant help but say 2 things. 1. The past 100 years do not get a pass as if this was just some people correcting mistakes, this is, and was even more so in the past, presented as GOD speaking through a channel of truth, uniquely, of which we are supposed to have proper food and use that to find God's people. Time passing should not affect Gods Truth. It was either true when it was released, or it was not. If not, it was not of God, or God is playing games. If untrue, then clearly there is no reason to trust that this channel is of God, any more than any other. Terms of " channel of god""Jehovahs Chosen people". " Spokesperson or mouth of God", have all been used to describe Watchtower theolgy as presented to the masses, coming form God Himself. This is a huge reponsibility, and one that you cannot later say" O, were just humans, sorry, does
If one hundred years of changes can make the Watchtower ok, then it should be ok to celebrate all holidays because the way they are celebrated today has completely changed over hundreds of years too.
You say you found through a lot of research that all holidays have pagan origins which make them unsuitable for Christians. If you do a little more research, you will find the Watchtower also has pagan origins which make it unsuitable for Christians. Just look at all the pagan symbols they used initially and their belief in the pyramids.
please jacinda, you need to keep it real, first and foremost your beginnings, your foundation, the structuring of your philosophy, ideology, starts with your beginning so do not act as though what was taught has no affliation or shaping to what the organization is as a whole. The old magazines, books, publications, is what developed the present conditioning of today's Jehovah Witnesses mind.So in closing no where you come from before you preach about what's going to happen, especially within the organization you dedicated your entire life mind and heart to, in you don't know what already happened. Please do not tell me you learned and did research through the organization about the organization. In order to get a honest perception i do think you would need to research from a source other than the one your questioning!
