Life After Death?

carolyn koen
Everyone of us have our own beliefs on what happens to us when we die. My point in writing this article is not to convince anyone of anything. We all have to make up our own minds on what to believe.

For many years I thought that when we die we cease to exist...no more thoughts...no more feelings...just nothingness. That was so hard for me to comprehend. I couldn't imagine it.

Over the years I have witnessed several events that has caused me to question my beliefs. I have heard stories from trusted friends, family and employers who witnessed similar events. To be honest, I would not have believed them if I hadn't of experienced the same things myself.

I still get chills when I think of the first time that I saw a spirit. I was taking care of a very talented and beautiful woman, in Shreveport, La. She was an incredible artist, very successful too. Every wall in her house had a gorgeous painting that she had done.

She was in the middle stages of Alzheimer's Disease when I started working for her. I stayed with her 24 hours a day, five days a week. On the second day there, she and I were in the living room watching TV, and a spirit flew in the room and floated above us. He was almost transparent, but I could see him clearly. I could even see his facial expressions as he looked down at us from above. She and I both watched as he flew from the living room to the dining room and then into the bedroom where I had been staying. To be completely honest with you, I was so scared I almost peed my pants. LOL!

Later on that day, as she was showing me her photo album, I recognised the man that had come to visit us. It was her husband of forty years, who had died five years before. I saw him a few more times after that, but once I realised that he was only coming to check on his wife and meant no harm, I wasn't afraid of him anymore.

In 1993 my Dad died. By this time I was already convinced that there is life after death, and that we still exist without our physical bodies. His death was still very hard on me, but I felt comforted knowing that I would one day see him again.

Several months after he died, he started coming to me in my dreams. He never stayed long, and most of the time he would never even speak. One morning he came to me in a dream I was having....I was at a concert with my brother. We were sitting pretty far from the stage and I couldn't see who was playing. I looked next to me and my Dad was sitting there. He kept calling my brother's name but he couldn't hear him. I touched my brother's arm and pointed to Dad, but he couldn't see him either. Dad told me to give him a message, "Don't buy the motorcycle." I immediately woke up and it was 7:00 a.m. I felt that the message was urgent so I called my brother and said, "I know you're going to think I'm crazy, but Dad gave me a message for you." "Don't buy the motorcycle." There was dead silence on the phone for at least thirty seconds, then he said "Thanks" and hung up.

I thought that he was mad at me for calling him so early and he probably thought I was out of my mind too. A few hours later he called and told me that when he had gone to bed that night, he started praying for Dad, and he told him, "If you can hear me Dad, please give me a message." I woke him up several hours later and said, "Dad told me to give you this message." He told me later, that he got goosebumps all over his body when I told him that. He then told me that he had planned to go look at a Harley that one of his friend's had for sale. It's a good thing he listened to Dad because the guy who bought it was in an accident a few weeks later. He wasn't hurt too badly but the bike was totaled.

This last year my Dad has come to me in my dreams twice. One of these times he actually saved my Mom's life. She had several illnesses, Alzheimer's Disease, COPD, Diabetes, Lung Cancer, just to name a few. It was 4:00 a.m. and I was sound asleep. My Dad showed up and shouted "WAKE UP!" I jumped out of bed and ran to my Mom's room, she was barely conscious. She was drooling and her eyes were rolling back in her head. I thought she had a massive stroke, but I found out when I got her to the hospital, that her blood sugar had dropped down to 33. That had never happened before because she loved sweets. If anything her blood sugar would be a little high.

Just recently my Mom has passed away. It brings me great joy, knowing that my Mom and Dad are together again. They were married for fifty years. He loved her so much that he looked out for her even thirteen years after he died. There has been a few occurences regarding my Mom since she has died. They happened to my sisters but since I wasn't involved, they are not my tales to tell.

Whew..I think I would be a bit scared having a spirit appear in form right in front of me. Although that has not happened to me yet, I've had some of the other experiences you have had. My dad appears in dreams all the time and they are very vivid, unlike the dreams you have when they days events are unfolding. I've also had about every light bulb in my house flickered at some point :-). Have you ever read any George Anderson books? He is incredible!
