Life with Children

Ebie Harris
Do you ever feel like you are not appreciated at home? This is how it goes in my house; daddy, children, dog, neighborhood cat, then mommy.

When my husband came home from work the children ran up to him. My friend commented on how much they loved their daddy. I told her they love Santa Claus too. If their father came around more than once a year the novelty of him would wear off.

I was getting ready to go on a date with my husband. I had one child watching cartoons and the other in the bathroom with me. Finally after an hour I was done getting ready. I was showered, dressed, and I actually manged to comb my hair. I walked out of the bathroom and my husband said, "do you want me to watch the children while you get ready?" I walked right back into that bathroom.

My husband came home from work the other day in a bad mood. He was on my case about me not working and being a stay at home mom. I bit my tongue and carried on making dinner. The next day he came home in a better mood. However he did not find his dinner, his laundry was not folded, and every dish and sock he left out the night before could still be found sitting in the exact same place he left it. When he asked what happened I simply replied that due to budget cuts I had to let our maid go.

I was so exhausted the other day and my son kept demanding something different to drink. Out of pure exhaustion and frustration I wanted to yell "this is not a restaurant" but I knew that would not help. Instead I decided to take everyone of his sippy cups and fill them with something different; all types of juice, milk, and water. When my husband come home and opened the fridge he yelled, "bad day hun?" And you know what my son went down for a nap deciding he was not thirsty after all.

The other day my husband commented on how easy I have it at home. He apparently has a misconception of what goes on during the day. I have to work for a tiny little demanding boss without pay. I do not have the luxury of lunch breaks or even bathroom breaks for that matter. I love spending time cooking for the food to be feed to the dog. And he is right I love sitting on the floor for 8 hours coloring or building towers over and over again. Yup, life at home is easy.

You can spend all the time in the world taking care of the children and the dog. You can make sure everyone is feed, clothed, bathed, played with and no matter what at the end of the day they still want Daddy. I give up.
