Think it's expensive to utilize the knowledge of a life coach? No longer. You now have a life coach right here on Associated Content. I have a Ph.D. and I hold my degree as a Holistic Life Coach. Through a series of articles, I know not how many yet, I will share with you many ways that you can better your life. One of the great ways that I use to keep the stress down in my life, and in my household, is by keeping everything organized. This can work in the office too. Organization skills are learned and mastered through practice and lots of cleaning!
Some of the tools you will need in order to organize your home or office, are file folders, file cabinets, storage totes, masking tape and markers. Use file folders and filing cabinets to store any kind of papers. Organize them by type, so that they are easy to find. Title each file folder. This is a great way to keep track of tax papers for each year, school papers, due and paid bills, work papers, receipts and more. Storage totes can be used to store any non-paper items. Use the masking tape and marker to mark the tote with what is in it.
Maybe you are storing clothes that no longer fit, but just may again some day. Maybe you are storing excess tools or kitchen items. Whatever you are storing, it will be of great help if you mark the tote on the outside, in a visible place, with what is in it. Clear plastic totes work good too, as you can kind of see in them to get an idea of what you have stored.
One of the biggest projects that comes along with organizing a space is sorting through the stuff that you no longer need. Don't store things that you are never going to use again. If you haven't used it in a year, it's likely you'll never use it again. Donate items that are no longer used, or find a friend or family in need to gift it to. Throw out (or shred) any papers that are over 7 years old. Don't hold onto instruction booklets for items you no longer own. If you have clothes that are too big, get rid of them. Holding on to oversized clothing is just begging to gain weight again! Donate what someone else can use, recycle things recyclable and trash anything else that is of no use to you anymore.
Keep your house clean. The clutter of a dirty house can also cause stress and keep you from succeeding. Do dishes when they get dirtied (or at least put them in the dishwasher so they are out of sight). Put things away as soon as you are done using them. Nothing is more distracting in a home than clutter. I work from home and when my house is messy and/or cluttered I just can't work. I spend too much time being distracted by my messy and disorganized house. Once I get things cleaned up and organized I am able to get back to work and focus on the important tasks, rather than the mess. Simply make sure that all things in your home, or office, have their own place and that when they are not being used they are in that place.
