Life Droppings!

Hunter Darden

I have a close friend who has always had the capability of keeping her incredibly organized household running smoothly in clockwork fashion with the ease of an acrobat. I have always been in awe of the effortless with which she creates a remarkably flowing household.

Many years ago, my neat friend's husband was inadvertently left at home alone one day'"a possible recipe for disaster. With the ease of a 2 year old, he managed to leave quite a mess while going about his daily routine.

When his wife arrived home later, it did not take her long to see the magnitude of his disarray. She began reprimanding him for the mess he had created. The moment, which had potential for an argument, was quickly diffused by this quick-witted man and his profound retort. He simply said, "Why honey, they're just life droppings!" The moment ended suddenly in reels of laughter for them both.

I have pondered this statement many times through the years and its subsequent laughter that it evoked. I have concluded that it has two realistically powerful messages for living:

1) Life will always have a tendency towards messiness.

2) Humor can discharge potential negative situations.

It is within our power to decide how to manage life's messes. I believe that God gave us the ability to laugh for a reason. Isn't a good gut-wrenching, knee-slapping belly laugh the most rewardingly therapeutic feeling in the world? It is our defense mechanism against the trials of life. Comic relief in the midst of life and its sometimes cumbersome troubles seems the most basal choice to me.

To find humor in life's dramas, it is necessary to understand how to be truly happy in our hearts.
This way laughter will occur spontaneously and naturally. So as you go throughout your day as you leave behind the natural "life droppings," always remember to keep a good sense of humor. Laughter will carry you a long, long way -- .
