The first lesson is that life can be humorous and fun again when you make time to play. Take time to relax and enjoy the moment. When you are super busy, it is necessary that you take even just a little time for fun. You do not have to spend a lot of time in order to get a benefit from a fun activity. One or two times a week is all you need to recharge those batteries. How long has it been since you read a good book? Do you remember the last time you took a good long soak in the tub? How about a walk with your children? Take in a movie or attend a festival while summer is still here. You have to give yourself permission to relax and forget about the every day stress.
Another thing that is essential in finding the humor and fun in life is to find your passion and follow it. Do you recall the last time you did something just because you loved it? Other things seem more important so your passion gets pushed aside. Diving into your passion regularly will make those other obligations seem a lot more rewarding. Make time to take a class or something else that will help you meet people who share your passion. Did you always want to play the piano? A good used piano will not set you back too much. If that is your passion, dive in and have fun.
A great way to find life's humor is, of course, having a great sense of humor. Laugh as much as possible. Get those tickets to the comedy club and laugh until it hurts. If you love cartoons, watch them at every opportunity. Check out some good joke books from the library. Check out some of those goofy situation comedies on television. Hang funny pictures where you work. Subscribe to the joke of the day in your e-mail. There is humor to be found everywhere. It does not take much looking to find it.
Try to find the humor in every situation. This will not always work when stress is really on you, but making it a habit will go a long way toward that goal. Laugh at yourself good-naturedly. The more you look on the lighter side, the more fun you will have. These are some simple suggestions but do not discount their power. When you make a habit of doing these things, your entire spirit will be lighter and happier. When it becomes a part of who you are, you will feel this way most of the time. What a gift to yourself to make life's burdens seem to be less heavy.
