Life Can Seem Too Heavy to Bear

We All Get Some Light and We All Get Some Dark

David A. Reinstein, LCSW

Life is neither guaranteed
Nor likely
To be filled with
Entertaining,
Pleasant or
Light weight events
And demands.
We all live in the Middle
And Heavy Weight
Divisions
As well.
In moments flooded
With anguish and fear,
Life can simply seem
Too heavy to bear.

To be always light
Is a fantasy
And wish
Enjoyed mostly
By those not
Paying attention.
To be heavy
In every moment
Of life
Marks depression
And self
Condescension

The bitter and the sweet
Brought into
The mouth
By the sharp tangs|
Of a fork;
Even the delectable
Can be delivered
By something
That can hurt
In either play
With sudden pangs
Whether one is at home
Or at work.

Some people
Eschew scales
For fear of knowing
Their weight;
And in doing so
Discount
The possibility
That sometimes
Weight can
Be great
And even our precious light
Can render visible
The onset of
A coming blight.

It can be ever so easy
In a phase of wishful thinking,
Self-doubt
Or perceptions initial,
To be misguided
By the
Ever-present and often
Distorted and distorting
Superficial.

Very powerful David, My Mom believed no matter what... you just get up and get on with it... that may seem harsh in today's pill pooping days, but it has help me through some rough times, It is not the attitude that helps everyone, and my boot straps are getting very short, but that attitude served me many times in life....thanks Mom, your poem brought her to mind...thanks David!

Take the good with the bad....we all have burdens to bear, we can choose to see things anyway we want to see them....Good job on this!

I don't use scales - the "weight" is often misleading. Life is weightless really, so long as you go with the flow and don't try to swim upstream. cheers!

It's easy to let the light problems bury the heavy ones until you can't tell what's really bothering you. Financial problems cause marital spats about everything but the money problems.

Hopefully the good times outnumber the bad.
